It was 46 degree's today at 1pm, i should have kept my mouth shut about our warm temp's. Sad

How about sedum 'john creech',do they die back like the others have so far.Usually my yard doesn't have leaves every where this time of the year but i don't know what the difference would be if they weren't covered with leaves?? So is it good for them or should they die back every winter to stay healthy?? I'm all ears!

Our entire yard needs amending just to grow grass,i have sand.We have been mulching the leaves with a riding mower for the last few years.I hope mulching them will make them break down & decay quicker. Thumbs up That is one way to amend the soil & not have to rake sooo much every year Hurray! .I just keep the rock garden cleaned out, rake out from under other things like black pussy willow,hibiscus,lantana,etc... keeps hubby from mowing the plants he can't see after i cut them back.I would like to get some opinions on the sedum stump?? Clean it off or leave it covered with leaves. The sarmentosa will probably die on back & what do i need to do with the 'john creech' & it's not a sedum but while on the subject, do ice plants die back & go dormant in the winter? Should i cover or clean them off. Shrug!

Here's my ice plant & 'john creech' plants.

Nothing here wants to go dormant,i have a desert rose that is just started loosing it's last blooms! nodding

I have missed everyone and i just finished downloading the last memory card of pictures that Mitchell took for me.He can work my camera and do the basic's on my laptop. I didn't trust him to sort my pictures correctly.I must say with what he took and the ones i've taken lately that was a lot of pictures, now they need labeling!! Sticking tongue out

I told Mitchell what plants to keep cleaned up & keep the leaves off as much as he could.I must say he did a great job!! Hurray!

He really did do a great job Jelinda.
Breaking the leaves down with the mower is a great idea. They will decompose much quicker, adding humus and nutrients to your sandy soil. As long as the layer of leaves is not thick it should be okay. Your photos don't show heavy leaf cover.
My John Creech goes semi dormant and returns again in the spring.
My delosperma (Ice Plant) stays every green here, but there are some varieties that go dormant during the winter.

The spot in the bed thats covered in leaves,i did that when i started to dig up baby 'mother of thousands' plants that popped up after i left 2 potted plants in pot holders in the bed.I couldn't get them all up & a mystery frost was suppose to be coming. I thought i got some to bring inside and i will put leaves on top of these and wait to see. They were every where on that side.

Jelinda, I forgot to answer your question. The semp in my avatar is a NO ID from another ATP person, Mark who also lives in Seattle! It suddenly took on this amazing color as the weather got colder!
Hurray!

I started to give an update on my sedums from Greg, until i realized nobody knew about the package he had so nicely sent me.The pots were carefully placed in seperate paper bags and put snuggly into a box with balled up paper between the bags snuggly holding them in place.

I must say that they should have arrived here in perfect shape but it seems between him & me the box was used to maybe play foot ball. The box had to have been tossed around a whole lot,i opened the bags & there was soil & pieces of sedum in the bottom of the bags and some how the plants were buried almost half way down in the soil.

I dumped out all pots, carefully picking out all the sedum,i was going to just put them out to reroot but it started raining anyway i put them in a large pot so they can just root again on their own.I have them inside so i can control the water & the environment completely.

Can i have some opinions & advice on what i have done with them.I used such a large container so it's like they are out on the ground & being allowed to root themselves. The pot is only half full & it's the same soil that's in my rock garden except outside there's a lot of pea gravel.

I'm keeping them in as much sun as i can & only misting with water when dries out.I can see new little white roots popping out all over.I am hoping that next season i will be able to just transplant them from the pot to the garden just as they are!!

Jojoe, they prefer outdoors, so I don't know how they'll do all winter inside...I'd put them out as soon as your weather is warming up (January?) Its not just light, its air flow that they like! Also personally you can water these, since both of them were rooted. They look okay though considering their tribulations! Sad And come spring they'll be looking great! Thumbs up

Good morning all.
Jelinda I agree with Greg. Those are such tough little guys, I think you could even put them outdoors now. This is their dormant/semi dormant season now, so they will not look their best until spring arrives with warm/sunny growing weather. Then, like Greg said, they will be beautiful. Smiling

I wasn't able to leave them sedum in the house.I left them in the short window box they are in but put them on the back porch. It's been raining here a good bit,i wanted to put them in the bed,so i put the pots out in the bed just trying to decide where i wanted them.We had so much rain while i had them sitting out there i brought them in.

When the weather clears up should i go ahead and lay them in the bed.I can try to just scoop them out with a long flat (thingamagig) brain freeze, a hand shovel yall know what i'm talking about 'i sure hope so'.Then i can try to not disturb the roots that have started and just lay the soil in the bed with the sedum on it or should i just leave them alone since they are doing ok & they are growing new roots.

This is the 3rd. time i have gotten plants in the mail that when i open the box there's a big mess inside of it!! Wonder if it's my mail lady Crying

Jelinda, I wouldn't disturb them again. Just leave them in the containers they are in. Come spring time they will come out of dormancy. Then you can move them where ever you want them. Thumbs up
