Trying to add this plant and system said 'Not Valid Genus' ?

It appears that this genus is not valid. If you are certain that it is a valid genus, please post a message to the Plants Admins requesting that it be added. In the message, please let them know all the fields you entered.

Important: Don't add quotes around the names. The system will add those automatically when appropriate.

Are you certain you spelled it correctly, Susan? There are several Iochromas in the database already:

lochroma cyanea is a hybrid of lochroma cyaneum. Every website I go to says something different. I am finding conflicting information everywhere I go. Here is a comment I found on DG, only thing that makes sense so far:

[quote from DG]
This plant is a product of the Athens Select programme at UGA. Although the Athens Select website is slightly ambiguous as to the name, the correct name is Iochroma cyaneum 'Purple Queen' rather than 'Royal Queen'. It is similar to but distinct from the USDA recognised cultivar Iochroma cyaneum 'Indigo'. [end quote from DG]

This has got to be it, this is in the ATP data base, (Iochroma cyaneum). There are several hybrids but could you just add 'Purple Queen' , not Royal Queen as I suggested. I purchased it under the name Royal Queen, but Purple Queen might be the trade name. Some call it Royal Purple Queen but I am confused, even Proven Winners is confused because they think it is an annual. They call it Royal Queen Purple!!

ZUZU said something about multiple entries in the data base but this one is really called lochroma and there are several different hybrids including, Royal Blue, Plum Beauty, Wine Red, and Sky King. Are you confused, join the club!

http://www.provenwinners.com/p...

But Purple Queen is not in data base either?..Also called Royal Purple Queen? Confused

Recap

Could you just add, Iochroma cyaneum 'Purple Queen' Green Grin!
I can sort out the fact sheets later.

Thank You! Susan

I added it as Iochroma 'Purple Queen': Iochroma (Iochroma cyaneum 'Purple Queen')

You can fix it when you get the proper names sorted out.

OH,... can you change the common name to 'Iochroma' , It's poping up under 'Violet tube flower' Confused

I think it should be the same as this one only the cultivar is 'Purple Queen'

Iochroma (Iochroma cyaneum 'Plum Beauty')

Thanks! Green Grin!

According to Proven Winners, that's the common name of it. http://www.provenwinners.com/p...
Iochroma can be an additional common name.

Well, if you browse by genus, none of the others have that. They all have lochroma for the common name. Go figure. Is 'Violet tube flower' the trade name? I think PW is the only place that mentions that name, I thought they made it up?

Just one more question, why is the Orchid Forum showing under this plant?

No problem. I tip my hat to you.

Susan, I think your original confusion was due to the font used on that website and this one. This font shows no difference between a small "l" and a capital "i," so you probably thought the name of the genus was Lochroma. The name of a genus has to begin with a capital letter, however, so Iochroma begins with an "i," not an "l."

As for the common name you prefer, you can propose a name edit, adding Iochroma as a common name, and give that name a thumbs-up. After you refresh the page, the one with the thumbs-up should be the one showing.

Half of the Iochroma list shows the same as the common name, half don't. http://garden.org/plants/brows...
I suppose PW chose that as a descriptive common name.

I meant the ones for 'Iochroma cyaneum'

This is the fact sheet from the grower. (link) Funny thing is that 'Proven Winner' is not listed as a grower or propagator or seller. And PW seems to be a separate thing. I cannot explain it except that maybe it is a different plant. Maybe PW has a plant called 'Violet Tubeflower' but Athens Select' does not.

Tubeflower or Tube Flower is a common name for Iochroma, but Violet Tubeflower probably applies only to the Royal Queen Purple cultivar.

Tubeflower was only mentioned under Proven Winners. There was no mention of it in the database till it was added today. But my plant is not a Proven Winner. It's an Athens Select. None of the other websites or vendors ever mentioned Tubeflower, only PW.
