A new series is being introduced this year of compact, strong heuchera. http://www.pioneergardens.com/... They look similar to others on the market, but maybe their compact size makes them stand out.

They sound interesting. Overall I think his plants have done the best for me , so I would try them. Thanks for the info.

I think so. On the bottom of that page it says watch for them from Pioneer Gardens, and they're in the US.

Beautiful. I really like them and the fact that they remain compact will make them easier to use for containers or to tuck into a little spot.

I agree re: Thierry. His and those bred by the Olivers from PA have never been a problem here. My only issue is I like BIG instead of compact. But as the daylilies have taken over every inch of space, compact may be my new learning curve.

I find I have a tendancy to 'tuck' things that get a little too big and then DH comes in behind me cutting things back that spill over into sidewalks and such. Problem is I like the type of look where things spill over. It tends to soften the hardscapes....

I like compact because I'm running out of garden space!

Had back surgery a year ago, I think my digging-new-garden days are pretty much over. Carolyn, I couldn't even imagine moving. There is no way I could dig up all my plants and take them along.

My husband and I talk about moving when I can finally retire. We both want to go South. Initially I had misgivings, but then I found out that my siblings and children will scatter from their current locations - and some of them have mentioned moving south as well. My best friend has made it clear that if I go south, she is coming too - so essentially, the people that are important to me will not be staying where they are now. I look forward to the days when I don't have to suffer with the winters - anything below 68 degrees and I am cold.

Odds are in a warmer climate, I will not be able to grow heux, however - I am hoping to retire and grow clematis and camelias. I will have to have another pond put in though - I cannot be without my pond.

Carolyn, depends on how far south you go. I live in the Dallas area and have no problems growing them.

I would think you could bring your Villosa as long as you have a nice shady area.

Wow. If they could make Heuchera with leaves like that all the time, I'd buy them right now. I just have a feeling the veins won't have that color long.

There is something to be said about starting over with new gardens. But it would be nice to bring some plants along. South sounds wonderful right now!

You're right Clint - the leaf colors change with the seasons, kind of like sempervivum.

I am sure the colors in the veins are seasonal - they are with the others. Part of the beauty of heuchs is their ever changing colors!

I know. I just want one that stays that way longer. Mine is only like that for a few weeks. I have one called 'Delta Dawn' that rarely looks like the tag.

It may take some time. I know that my Miracle had to be a couple of years old before I saw any real color on it.
