First step is to select your trees that are in the same family. So we will start with the Butia Odorata formally classified as Butia Capitata var odarata.
This palm normally self pollinates as it is unisex. So we emasculate all of the male flowers off of the inflorescence.
Once all the male flowers are removed we wash the inflorescence and bag it so it can not cross pollinate with other nearby trees.
And that is the first step to making a hybrid palm.
Step two is gathering Pollen from another palm. Which will be the Queen palm. Syagrus
We then take this pollen and introduce it to the flower we emasculated. There are several methods most people prefer using a type of paint brush and brushing the inflorescence with the pollen.
After pollinating we leave it bagged for at least a week to insure there is no other cross pollinating. Here is an inflorescence after being pollinated.
