Hi,
I used to be pretty active on some of the online gardening sites and I miss having a place to socialize w/other gardening addicts. You know that those not obsessed with plants just don't understand.....spending 50.00 dollars for a daylily, all my spare time up to my elbows in dirt, working in the garden at night or in the rain......the list could go on & on. Today the weather is perfect and all I can think about is MY GARDEN!!!!!!

My favorites are Japanese Iris, daylilies, and water gardening. I live about 40 miles east of Memphis, Tn, about 8 miles north of the TN / MS LINE. Thumb of 2013-03-16/lorettalea/a49689

Wow! that baby is soooo cute. Thanks, roses and clematis just seem to go together. The problem is that the rose and clematis bloom once in early spring & then nothing. After the clematis is through blooming I plant some morning glory seed to climb and to add some color.

Thanks, that baby is now three but I've been taking her to the garden with me since before she could walk ( photo) she loves helping grandma and she's very good at digging potatoes, planting bulbs and seeds, weeding and of course, every child's favorite, watering!

Great idea about the morning glories following the clematis and roses. What variety rose is it? I just bought a new one, Zephirine Drouhin, old variety and almost thornless, but very fragrant. I think it will get a second blush though, I sure hope so.

I am still getting used to the seasons down here in Ga. I can't say I've ever spent $50 on a Lily, but I did spend $8 for 10 seeds and use most of my disposable cash on garden related things and I have been out in the rain working as well.

My daughter was never into gardening UNTIL college but she's probably more intense about it than I am even. Hilarious!

Hello Loretta! Have you had any problems with your Japanese iris and the heat? I grow some in NC, and have 7 more varieties on order, but always worry about if they are getting too much sun. I also grow Louisiana iris and quite a few bearded iris. Would love any good JA iris tips!

Welcome! Jay. Unfortunately, though there are a lot of us mid-south gardeners on ATP, this forum doesn't have many posts (to say the least), and that's too bad. What sort of gardening/plants are you interested in. I can perhaps suggest other forums that have a robust group of posters. Thumbs up

Jay, these are some of the forums that are in my "favorites" list. I have listed them from what I think are the most-posted to those with lesser posts.

1. Orchids - I grow a lot of them and there are some real experts that post here regularly
2. All Things Gardening
3. Ask A Question
4. Sandbox - Covers anything and everything. I started a thread titled "Adios, Dave's Garden" that has drawn a lot of interest of those that also visit/subscribe to Dave's Garden or have visited/subscribed to it in the past.
5. Edibles and Preserving
6. Houseplants
7. Plumeria - not so active in the winter months but really gets going in the spring and summer

There are probably many, many more forums with lots of interest and posts, but I have enough to deal with, having 20 forums as my "favorite".

I live literally on the Arkansas/Louisiana line. I'm about an hour from Shreveport, La going one way & about an hour & a half from Texarkana, AR/TX going the other way. I was a member of GardenWeb for years, lost my computer & internet so only have internet on my phone or go to the library. Hate GW now because half the time I can't get a comment posted. It's just not the same. I'm a member of PlantSwap but not there very often since finding this site. I'm a member of several garden groups on Facebook & in fact am an admin for the South Arkansas/North Louisiana Garden Club & Exchange. I formed it because there was zero activity it seemed in my area. I would love to do in person swaps but those aren't popular for my area for some reason.

The picture of the arbor is just downright beautiful! I live in Ga and we are struggling with no rain.. Grass is parched and every one of my hydrangeas are limp in one day.. So we water.
I just love plants! Simple truth. My favorites are the peonies and hydrangeas. I have less time in the garden now as I have acquired a little RV and I plan to travel. But that is just troubling because of my yard and plants. What to do! Maybe short trips! But your yard is gorgeous! Hurray!

This is a forum for Mid-South Gardening. May I ask what region that actually covers?

Hi, John. I would consider the term "mid-south" to include Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, S. and N. Carolina, and Virginia. The deep-south would include Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. In my opinion, Florida is deep-south only because of location. The population is as much northern and foreign as it is southern....... Whistling

I think it would be mostly the Z7 & 8a area, east of OK and TX, which would include TN, NC, AR, and the northern parts of MS, AL, GA, and SC. There may be an actual description somewhere by the creator of the forums. Since this forum is so slow compared to the potential area covered by the name "mid-south," most people must not consider themselves in that area. It's not a term I hear often.
