I wintersowed a jug of this. Information I'm finding varies from annual, perennial, to biennial. ???

Height, I'm finding everything from 8" to 28" ???

Can anyone add some clarity?

I did some looking around, Karen, and the general consensus is that it grows to about 30", and looking at the pictures, that seems about right. It does appear to be a perennial, but it sounds like you may not see flowers till the second or even third year. I see what you mean about conflicting information, tho!
This is some information from a growing trial, in case you didn't come across it yourself:

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to update the database with your own close and personal experience of the plant! Green Grin!

One or two pieces survived winter, I think. If they're both silene, one looks deformed. They're still tiny, not doing much.

I had the same problem back when I grew them from seed. I got my seeds from Park's. They were about 30" tall and definitely biennial.

I found a picture of them. They haven't kept themselves going very well. Just a couple sparse plants. I hink they would need to be started each year to be successful with them.

They're beautiful Meredith. Two of mine are blooming, long straggly plants with sparse flowers.

I was just revisiting this thread and want to say, these biennial Silene are very much like the annual Silene armeria. Except the annual Silene grow like weeds for me and you have to direct seed the annual ones or they will be tiny straggly plants. The full name of the annual ones is Silene armeria. They love my sandy soil and they do better in recently disturbed spots. I don't usually see them in the same spot each year, but new huge patches show up.

Found another picture from a different spot. This garden is my work in progress this year and last, so it has been recently disturbed just the way Catchfly seems to like.

Beautiful, Meredith. Mine were scrawny things with only a couple of blossoms.
