I have always used a lot of impatiens but with the disease running rampant in them, this year I am going to

Use begonias and foliage plants like Coleus and Coral Bells (Heuchera) for color.

I saw some red-on-red wax begonias today. I liked them a lot, but talked myself out of an impulse purchase...for once. Hilarious!

In my experience coleus love heat and humidity. Only certain ones will tolerate hot sun though.

Some of my favorite plants I use for containers that do well in shade are yellow shrimp plant, cassandra plant, Mona lavender, fuschia gartenmeister, begonia bonfire, elephant ears, rex begonia vine, begonia sparks will fly, cuphea, coleus, jenny, purple oxalis, ferns, evolvus, datura, silver sage plant. They have all fared well in my hot humid summers.

I like to attract the hummers and once the trees grew & turned my sun garden into shade I was on the lookout for plants that would draw in the humming birds. The gartenmeister, Mona Lavender, cuphea and coleus all do that.

Me, I was just trying to figure out what to do with an outdoor brick wall shower that came with the house I just bought. Mostly shade and just wide enough to fit in a horse trough to put ferns, laminum, huercheras, hellebore and hosta in. Don't know whether there's anything remotely interesting to the hummingbirds here... Blinking

Begonia 'sparks will fly' was new this year and I was really happy to see it at my local farmer's market.

Here they are planted together & starting to bloom. Love the flower color. The underside of the foliage is purple.

I'll have to look them up as I am not sure what that means?
Hybrid between the two types or hybrid of two tuberous? or two fibrous?
