Recently I purchased a new Heuch, clearly labeled as 'Volcano.' It didn't come up in the DB here, but I found one labeled as 'Vulcano' with no images. Hmm...
When you google 'Volcano' Heuchera, both names come up.

So, does anyone know which word is correct? This is confusing since some vendors are selling this as 'Volcano.' Logically, it would seem Volcano would be correct, since that is a real word, however, people who name plants are not always logical. <LOL>

Would appreciate any information on this heuchera. Thanks.

When it was released by Thierry Delabroye it was spelled Vulcano.

Thanks very much for this information! It's a shame that sellers aren't more careful with names, as this is how wrong information gets out there.

It is possible that it is registered under Vulcano in Europe and Volcano in America. Would not be the first time.

Hmm, I only know about the registration process for daylilies, not heuchera. There must not be an international governing body for registering heucheras as there is for daylilies and hosta. Different names would not be allowed for one cultivar if ISHS or ICNCP rules were followed. There is a strict code of nomenclature that must be followed. Guess that is why I am having trouble understanding this.

This is one example I have read about. Heuchera Dolce Black currant in the USA and Heuchera Blackberry Jam in Europe.

That is one I have been trying to figure out. Most sources sell Kassandra . Kassandra has a patent by Delabroye.

I have both and they are slightly different then each other, but this could be because of slightly different lighting.

Do not know if this means anything but.....I had read that Terra Nova charge more for their Hercs so they are the ones that are more expensive in the big box market. I started noticing that Hercs that are not Terra Nova creations are a lot cheaper than others. This one was 5.00.

This if fine with me because TN does not survive my zone conditions.

Here is a pic of the one I purchased as 'Volcano.' - reminds me of a few in the "gold" category.

Terra Nova ones are more expensive. With their plants you need to check the background of what species they used for the mix. Some are made to be better in the northwest , others do better in the southeast.

Here is a list of ones that have done well for me Zone 6A.
Southern Comfort
French Quarter
Root Beer
Cherry Cola
Mahogany
Mardi Gras
Georgia Peach
Midnight Rose
Peachy Keen
Sugar Plum
Shanghai
Amethyst Myst

I only named ones that I have had for 3 seasons or more. Mostly you want ones with Villosa and americana in their background.
All of their Tiarella have done very well. And all Heucherella but Golden Zebra have done well.

Bob I am going to try Midnight Rose again. I purchased that one when I first moved here and the deer/rabbit kept eating the leaves as soon as it would grow a new one. I have them sort of under control, as much as you can control the wildlife. Maybe it will survive. My local nursery had some so I will give it a try again.

Yes I purchased Golden Z last year it is dead. It did not return this year. I am not happy I paid 20 bucks for that one.

My other good one is Caramel it is going on 4 years and it is very strong. Thank you for the list.
