I'm wondering what color everyone likes for their house? Trim colors and shutters and stuff? My back yard will be a hodge podge of anything I want, but the front yard is very small and on a busy road. Do you coordinate the color of your plants/blooms with your home's colors?
I was thinking of painting my ranch style a sage color, with white trim and then a rose color pink shutters. What kind of flowers would I put with that? Maybe I should use mostly greenery/texture plants in the front?
Would love to see pics of the front yards with the house in it.

Had my house painted a warm ivory with sage green trim. Makes a neutral backdrop for anything I want to put in. I don't generally have much white, though, since the house is white.

Looks smashing! So do you have trouble getting things to grow with that huge tree right in the front like that? I had a maple once and it was probably 25 feet from my house and I could not get anything to grow around my house the roots were so thick. We even cut some roots out with the chain saw that got around the foundation/crawl space. We finally cut the tree, it rooted up into my neighbors garage. The tree was just as much on her side than mine-in the fence-thank goodness. I just told her one day that we were going to cut OUR half would you like us to cut your half too? A silver maple, those things I detest.

I like it because so many of the foliage plants we treasure pick up the dusty burgundy and forest green shades of the house. And tan is everywhere, in every season.

here is a pic of part of the front of the house I will be working with.
I would like to put a metal roof on the house, in burnished slate, a really dark almost blackish chocolate color.
then paint the house a sage green color, not too dark though.
The main trim, sofit ect will be white, but Im not sure what color to do the shutters. I am thinking either a rosy coral color, kind of muted-nothing bright, or maybe a dark chocolate color to match the roof?

well my photo looks like the house is a lopsided mess, but I guess that must be the angle or the camera or something. The house really does look better in person lol

well that is ok too, but I think I like the green and cream better. I think the yellowish w chocolate looks kind of dated for that house.

Yep, it was real ugly in person, which is why I was so grateful to my boss for giving me a house paint job as a new homeowner present.

A darker sage might be nice for your shutters.

I have color swatches painted in several spots by the front and back door, been like that for over a year already, I am having a hard time committing to color over such a large area, it's scary to me LOL!
After seeing a local house color in town that we liked, I think I finally found what I want. It's a warm light olivey green for the body with warm cream trim (to me, white is too strong of a contrast) and the front door will be a deep plum. Green, to me, is a great backdrop for any garden plants!

Oh, that will be very pretty Sue. I would really like to use the warm creamy color too for my trim, but the windows in the house we bought are new and they are white, we are broke poor and I figure matching everything up to the white will be easier to do and cheaper. So white it is. But that is the very reason why I don't want too deep of a color on the siding, too much contrast with the brighter white.

Yes, I agree, in that case white would be the best choice with a lighter siding color.

Our house is light blue which can look grey. Trim & shutters are 'buttercup' yellow. Large beech tree in front yard as well as other tree. House is on former conservation property & builder was able to sneak it in without cutting the trees. there were birch trees but he had to hit the roots so they are gone. No photos however.

I would keep your colors neutral to blend in with nature since you want to plant flowers in front that way you can change the colors of plants/flowers yearly. Our house had been painted blue when we put new sideing on we chose a light beige/tan with white trim.
