This variety is a rarely seen one of Ipomoea purpurea. It is making a white split petal flower, and has interesting leaves which mainly are 3 point shaped rather than the heart shaped ones commonly seen.

I think it is way cool, too. It would be fun trying to cross a reverse tube I. purpurea with with hopes of seeing both traits of reverse tube and split petal expressed in the same flower.

That would be um awkward to say the least! I'd definitely like to see that cross! Too bad it's not a nil .. i have the diatube nil.

Or maybe cross a flaked purpurea into it. That would be wild to see all the lines of color in the split petal flower.

Joseph, this is the flower that goes with the cupped foliage I posted on the "leaf" thread.
Because white is my hands down favorite, I am thrilled with the purity of this one, which looks pretty good to have endured 3 inches of rain while trying to open.Thumb of 2013-07-05/poisondartfrog/c5d015

Hi Alana, that white one of yours is lovely. I have infrequently grown white flower MGs but when I did, I appreciated them very much. I grew a large white flower JMG you might enjoy, large variegated dragonfly leaves too. Let me know if you'd like to try it.

Here is a near white flower on an Ipomoea nil from Kyushu University, Q0224. I like its little roundish variegated leaves. If you look at it in the right light, it has yellow color in it, but it is next to impossible for me to capture it in an image.

I agree with the ''unusual'', I think maybe I like the looks of the unopened flower even better.
Why is it called Q1151? Is it like naming astrological objects they simply run out of names?

Because the Japanese growers are creating the mutants so fast it's not easy coming up with bunches of names like Aomurasakihigesibori. I have a Q designated MG I grow, erroneously called Tenten in the past.

X, are you saying that the name Tenten is erroneous, or that your seeds were mislabeled? I ask because I was given some seeds labeled "Tenten." (This was a few years ago.)

It's confusing .. I was given Tenten a few years ago and I can't remember who, perhaps Emma or Ron said no, it's correct name is Q751 not Tenten. They weren't mislabeled as far as I know as everything I knew as Tenten looks exactly like Q751. Someone way down the line may have mislabeled. Perhaps Gerris knows the history.

Tenten was a marketing name, and I don't think Ron or Emma would use a name Derek Hanks cooked up.

I prefer not to be involved in discussions of the history of names, I'm not that knowledgeable in the subject.

So, Tenten is really Q751, eh? Hmmm, not even close. Wonder what number base they were working in? Hilarious!

I still think of it as Tenten though - I think I'm going to grow Tenten, Kanoko and Fujishibori together next year .. might make some interesting crosses! This year is such a bust because of all the rain that I'm pretty much writing it off and already thinking of next year.

All nice, I really like the light freckling on the last one particularly, gardengus.

Here's another that is not quite white. It is beige in person. Taken this morning before dawn, the photo seems a little taupey-pink, but to my eye it was beige. The camera hints at, but does not fully capture the way this one shimmers as if fairy dusted.
