I feel like a new Mother...........my baby AVs and Streps are all showing signs of blooming or are already blooming.
I now need to know how old these plants must be before I can begin to take off a leaf here and there to see if I can propagate them. I am so proud these are growing for me since I never could grow them before, that I do not want to do anything wrong, Therefore, I am asking for any tips from those of you who have grown either of these that will help me make babies without killing the stock plants.
Do you dead head these plants?

So far, here are the ones blooming.

Rob's Sticky Wicket is blooming again.

I have taken my baby AVs out of the incubator (closed container) and put them in an open container with a wee bit of water. They looked like they were getting too much sun and turning a bit pale, so I thought they needed fresh air and other light with only part of the morning sun especially since it has been in the 90s and the sun is so very hot even in the morning. May I have your thoughts about what I have done.

My AV's are in a Northern exposure in my house and more often than not, they are flowering for me. I never thought about putting them outside, but I know my other plants seem to like it outside.

A lot of people have their AV's under lights and do quite well. I would like that kind of setup myself, however I just don't have the room. I have thought quite often, in my my next house (in my own perfect world Green Grin! ), that I would like to have shelves built in with the lighting, so that I can have a lot of the AV's.

I haven't grown streps in years - let us know how the streps do for you.

This first one is believed to be Frosted Cherry. Believed because it is just like a friends, but mine came with no name.

The second is from a friend that was retiring at work and she left her plants to me.

Carolyn, they are beautiful. I never cared about names prior to learning to propagate, then when I started to sell my excess plants I noticed that people really care about the names of their plants. I see so many places that just do not put tags in their plants and I hesitate to buy them because if they would be patented it would be my luck to be selling a patented plant. LOL

I am having a great time with the streps because they are easy and they seem to thrive on morning sun and watering regularly. Greg has been such a help and I am learning so much from him.

My little baby AVs are not looking healthy and someone suggested fish emulsion. I am wondering if that is what others would use for my problem. I think they got too hot in the sun last week when it was really hot and they were only getting morning sun but I noticed some of my other plants inside the same windows got burned also.

I am so happy to hear the the Northern windows are good for AVs. That means I have a few more places for plants. Hurray! Hurray! Rolling on the floor laughing

Looking at my window sills this morning brought me a really big smile. All the streps look just wonderful and that makes me so happy.

I took the baby ACs that I started from leaves and transplanted them into pots of their own with medium. We will see what happens. They look so cute and I really felt they needed to be in some good potting soil. We will see. Shrug!

I recently crosspollinated some of mine. I am interested to see what new and interesting AV's I get. I know it will take me about 2 years to see flowers. Unfortunately not all crosses seemed to have taken. Grumbling

This little African Violet, I assume it is a standard has no name. My daughter had it in her office and it was dying so she gave it to me. I love the two tone pink color and I have had good luck so far starting babies from her leaves. She like it here and seems to be getting healthier by the day. I wish she had a name.

I have a Sinningia called Bristol's Love Potion. When it arrived there was a leaf broken off so I stuck it in soil not thinking anything would happen and it was a long leaf so I cut it in half before I put it in the soil. I noticed today tiny babies coming out of both pieces of leaf. Hurray! Is that what you call dumb luck?

Love the delicate color of the AV. Great on the Sinningia. I have never grown them - are they similar to the AV's?

Yes, in face they are kind of a mix between the strep and an AV. I am patiently awaiting my plant to bloom. The buds are very different, they look like little lanterns as they mature. Really interesting. I will see if my camera will take a shot of them for you. Be back later. Lovey dubby
