Our first time to visit the Filoli country house and gardens. Such a vast estate, maintained now by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, when it was donated by its last owner the Roth family in 1975. Filoli has 654 acres, the house has 36,000 sq ft interior floor space, with major rooms having ceiling heights of 17 feet, the ballroom has ceiling height of 22.5 ft, and the house has 43 rooms and 17 fireplaces.

The name Filoli was coined by the first owner, Mr. Bourn from his credo:
FIght for a just cause; LOve your fellow man; LIve a good life.

Thanks for sharing your trip to Filoli. I've been there a couple of times and I've been amazed at the verity of plantings.

We were glad it was nearer to visit....much easier to return for another visit.
