In the last 6 years I have grown many lilies from seeds and it's always exiting to see a new seedling open for the first time. And my experience so far is that even from skilled growers you don't always get what's promised. I find that exiting.

This one are a example of this. This comes from Griesbach's 4n OTs, a mix of 4 different strains. I believe it's a 4n trumpet.

The next one that surprised me is this one. When the bud started to open I thought it might be a henryi but the bud where bigger than a normal henryi bud. The seeds comes from a Danish lily Society or from Griesbach's 4n trumpets. I really like it but I was hoping for a 4n White Henryi type flower that could give me OTs that where down facing.

This is a 4n OT of Griesbach's seeds. Anthony,I know that you gave me some OT seeds from Griesbach's hybrids, it could be one of them.

It could be a seedling where this cross was the pod parent: ((l.HENRYI x BRIGHT STAR) x L.HENRYI). It's pollinated with Lady Alice and some other aurelians.

Charles Kroell sent me pollen from some of his black heats and also both 4n trumpets and 4n OTs of Griesbach's hybrids. This year I will do many exiting crosses.

The henryi hybrids posted earlier have been pollinated with ( Mego hybrid x Black Heart White) from you, Anthony. I hope to get seeds.

Am planting Airdrop/Hearts Desire x Tallboy seed, to see what grows... should be good!,.,.That Mego Hybrid is very good Oystein... The bloom comes out in a candelabra of 6 flowers in the circle..It was picked from a restricted class for grand champion, but 'just beaten' and put back.. I looked at a seed pack of it today, and wrote 'must plant' on it!

So true. That's why I show my "ugly" ones along with the good. That first big trumpet of yours, Øystein, is really promising. And I like the pinwheel effect, with (almost) all the tepals curling to the right. I have always wondered why no one has ever bred for that trait.

Showing ugly ones on a cross by cross basis is good study material and that makes your posts about it so interesting, Rick. But, I get so many misfits I wouldn't even attempt to explain and I don't have time to review--just toss 'em by the wheelbarrow full every year. In the end (after 5 years or 2nd or 3rd flowering) I'm lucky to have maybe 5 out of 100 left from every seedling I plant by culling, or, they get deseased or they're not garden hardy, etc.

Sorry to 'butt in' but perhaps that's why I enjoy your individual cross postings so much--because it's something I never tackle here.

Oystein--that first one you show is a real nice one--I am partial to that kind of color tone/blend. Keep your fingers crossed and hope it continues to grow nicely.

This funny lily bloomed for the first time last year. I thought something had happened with it but it's looking like it was last year. Can't deside if it's a nice one or not.

This is not a lily I have sown but a seedling selected in Charles Kroell's garden. Only 2 flowers. I have already picked the anthers.
