I saw this growing in my front yard a few weeks ago, and it's gotten bigger & bigger and BIGGER. It's HUGE. It covers about a 6' area, each leaf is at LEAST a foot in size. It bloomed this morning. I'm thinking a watermelon/pumpkin/cucumber or something. Not vining. I didn't plant it, it's a volunteer. Don't know what or where though. And what's really odd about this plant is that the leaves have these interesting white speckles on it.. like freckles.
Any idea? I guess I could just wait until the fruit starts to grow from the flower...

Well, if it's a pumpkin, I can figure out where it came from. If it's not a pumpkin, I have NO idea where or how. Last year, when I carved out my pumpkins for Halloween, I saved the seeds as I wanted to roast them. However, in my forgetfulness, I left them outside that night & the next morning, I found that the squirrels had found my bowl of pumpkin seeds. And squirrels are notorious for digging in my mulch.. I find their little holes EVERYWHERE. Surprising that it's growing where it's growing, though. It gets less than 4 hours of sun / day.. only between like 10:30am to 1:30pm (high noon).
My Jack-o-lanterns from last year. I don't use a pattern (and it shows) and I carve my pumpkins using a drywall knife (http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/1...)

Pumpkin is getting HUGE! It produced 2 fruits.. one tiny little thing about the size of a cantalope and the other's HUGE. I'd say at least 1.5 times the size of a basketball. Still super dark green. The little one has already turned yellow.. I wonder why it turned & the big one hasn't?

I've had that happen, too.
My vines look like they're all but done now; there's been no rain for months. I did get a few fruit this year, but not nearly what I've had in the past.
Usually for us the first couple of pumpkins are small. Once those first couple small ones are out of the way the vine quickly produces full size fruits.

Got 1 huge pumpkin (definitely carving size) out of this plant. Cut most of the vine away this weekend as it was just grasshopper bait. Further down on this vine there's another itty bitty pumpkin growing, so didn't cut that vine. Doubt it'll grow to anything before the plant is killed by frost. But here's my pumpkin!
Surprisingly there's no flat spots on the pumpkin! It actually grew round, and I didn't even turn it once while it was growing! Maybe because it was laying on mulch, which is soft & gives? But I'll definitely be carving this badboy up!! I think I'll try to grow pumpkins next year purposefully.. just not in the middle of my yard taking over & killing my roses!!

Well, my pumpkin met it's fate last night. Carved it.. I think it looks pretty good. I don't do fancy carvings.. maybe some day I'll learn how to do the scraping & Dremel'ing, but for now, I just use a drywall saw & my imagination.
And since it was a surprise pumpkin in my yard, I made a surprise jack-o-lantern out of it.
I bought a 2nd pumpkin when they went on sale for $2, my plan was to make a ghost in front of the moon (I've done that before). But, to me, it looks more like the Hamburger Helper guy.
