Hello, I would like to hear which Clematis folks like the most, and why?
Guess mine are Nellie Moser and Niobe...this year! LOL.

I'd have to say it's a tie. My favorites are the deep blues. I like to cut them and bring them inside with white roses for bouquets. Elsa Spath produces beautiful, rich-colored blooms numerous times during the season and is one of my favorites.

And that one ties with Climador, also a deep, rich-colored bloom... but on a much shorter plant that can be grown on the patio or in the garden.

Well my favourites change all the time.....although I like easy growing clematis myself. The one that has never failed me and has produced such wonderful blooms has been The President. I guess I like it cause I have never had yellowing on the leaves......it is a nice bushy plant and the blooms are just gorgeous and last at least 6 weeks for me.

This is kind of funny to me. I was looking through some old photo's tonight and came across one of my Mom's "pride and joy" plants. This picture was probably taken about 30 years ago but I so remember this beautiful Climatis that she had forever. And that's my house I grew up in in Hamilton Ontario!

I guess this is one of the reasons I crave to grow Climatis here...

Dawn, Climador is one of the smaller clems. It can easily go in a container or on a smaller orb-type structure. Growing recommendations show it topping out around 4 to 5 feet, but mine has remained shorter because I prune it midseason. I've got mine on a small 3 foot structure in the front of the garden with Bitter Lemon pelargonium growing around it. It makes a pretty display! There is also a Pink Climador that is very pretty, but I've found it is a little more sensitive to our heat. Either one should do just fine for you up there.

Kat, beautiful clematis!!! I can see why you're eager to get started with them. Did you see the article I posted on Clematis for Hot Climates? Dave has given us the tools now, so I'm publishing as quick as I can! =P (Check out the link in the right info box that says "Articles".)

Hi Evey
Just wanted to let you know I just a few minutes ago ordered 2 new clems. I chose shorter ones and plan to grow them in pots.
I got Cl. Guernsey and Cl.Hyde Hall. I've never grown clems in pots so I'm excited..
Didn't know where to post this so guess I'll just say at this time these are" My Favorites." Hilarious!

Well, YAY! I'm a huge fan of the shorter clems. My Hyde Hall is just now awakening for spring... lots of new foliage popping out all over. Guernsey Cream is one of my favorites. It is one of the few Patens with yellow coloring. It can look so beautiful in fading light too. There's a great photo of it by Cees posted on the database, and another gorgeous posted over on my site. It's just one of those blooms that seems so "romantic" to me.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the lovely pics and great information on your favorites! I see my clems are just awakening in the garden, so soon I will be able to contribute some here.... Last year I went "clem crazy" (every year it is a different plant, sure you all can relate! Smiling ) Bought some new trellises at Tuesday Morning.....

Janice, I can definitely relate! I've done a plant a year since we moved to the house. By the end, I hope to have something 1/100th as pretty as Zuzu's garden!

So far I have planted C. Rooguchi, Killian Donohue and Niobe. I also have a jackmanii which a previous owner planted at the house in Asheville and I will try to get cuttings for rooting of it before it goes on the market this year. Checked earlier tonight and Rooguchi and Donohue are putting out new growth, but by the time I got around back to Niobe, it was too dark to see. Have to check her out tomorrow!

Several more I want to acquire: Ramona, Asao, Elsa Spaeth, just to name a few.

I HIGHLY recommend Elsa... she's a beauty! The large dark blooms are very striking.

I just love my Crystal Fountain. I put it at the base of a crape myrtle bush. It started to wind up the bush and then was cut off at ground level because of high winds moving the branches of the bush to which it was attached. It looks like it's starting from scratch again.

The variations in the colors are also very nice.
