The new QR codes sound great but I don't currently have a smart phone. Maybe someday in my "older years" I will get smarter and learn more about technology but since I'm already 65 I doubt that will happen. When I give plants to friends I always print out the database pages for each plant but the scanner thingy would sure be a lot easier! I recently mailed a few plants to a friend who lives a couple of hours south of me and she thought the pages of information on each plant was great. I told her about ATP and hopefully she will come on over and join us!

Sweet Potato's! I grew up with sweet potato's being a staple in our household and I have always loved a baked sweet potato, mashed with butter and cinnamon on top; I love sweet potato casserole too! In my area of the country Sweet Potato Fries have become very popular ... and they are really good, especially served along with a pineapple dip (pineapple topping mixed with plain or vanilla yogurt), Yum! I think sweet potato fries are BETTER than regular fries but I like sweet potato's much better than regular white potato's and they do store longer. Oh my, that SP Hashbrown recipe sounds wonderful! I know this is pretty much a gardening website but I think we really need a sub-forum or thread for recipes; maybe in the Edibles and Preserving Forum; or at the end of each of these podcasts.

Great job on this podcast; although I don't have the space for planting/growing vegetables, I really enjoyed listening and learning!

Your pineapple dip idea sounds great. Trish makes yogurt from our own cow's milk so we will definitely give this a try!

I had no idea about curing them. I do bake several at a time, cut in half, freeze on cookie sheet, and bag them. Don't much care for them in savory dishes but I use them in my smoothies including the peel.

And here I went and grew my own sweetpotato slips this year from saved SW (<-- edited--..I mean SP) from last years harvest. Dang if I ended up not planting a single one this year; got too busy doing other people's gardens. Maybe I'll just grow a slip in my shoffice as an ornamental vine!

Great info on the QR code thingy, too. I recently got a fancy phone (an android of some kind?) so wonder if it will scan. I assume you use the camera for that? I'll have to get better educated; right now I'm happy I've learned how to make and receive calls on it.

Dave, I've heard of some kind of app where people take pictures of plants and results come back telling them what the plant is, or choices of what it might be. I wonder if one day you could do that and when people click SEND (to submit their plant in question) it would go to the ATP Identification forum where people could identify it, then a response would be sent back to the original person with a link to the forum/thread with the results. Seems like it would be fairly quick, user friendly, even open up a link to the database, and also bring in new members.

As for me it sounds overwhelming how someone would program that but in these days when everyone's phone is automatically hooked up to the internet it sure would bring in some interest (and members). It would also be connecting people with people (forum conversation), something important to me so we all don't get lost in only relating to a smart phone/computer encyclopedia, etc.

Then again, maybe ATP already has that feature and I'm too ignorant (so far!) to know.

But again, love the podcasts! And think I missed the contests cus I didn't listen to last weeks, which I assume is where you mentioned it.

Shoe, search your apps for a scanner. If you have an android then you should have a "Google Play" icon that takes you to the app store. Then search for "QR Scanner" and I bet you'll find it. Once you get it, you'll be looking for those qr codes everywhere and scanning them all. It's actually a lot of fun for a while.

I like your idea of an automatic post to the Plant ID forum. It's something that I'm not ready for yet but I think it would be great to put on my wishlist for "some day".
