Picked up from The thread "I just bought in June 2013" in Orchids forum
Guess nobody bought anything in July

Well went to the show that was supposed to have 50 vendors. Try 14. Talked to the club and it turns out the list I was looking at was the vendors that support the club list and not the show list. Grumbling

Lynda and I got a little crazy at the show. We have really been busting our butts at the shop and it was time to spend some on us. Picked up an Epi. ciliare, Trichoceros species K, Den. Calicullmentum (dichaeoides type 3), Pleurothallis species lita, and a Stenoglottis macloughlini(woodsii) from Andy along with the Euchili citrina that I have been looking for since I saw it at Carol's quit awhile ago. Not as large as hers, but blooming size. I just can’t wait for it to bloom.
From Seed Engei, I found their discount table and picked up a Neofinetia falcata 'Nishidemiyako'. Can't figure it out though. Under lots of price tags and tape was the name. I got it for the variegated leaves. It was cute. When I looked it up at home it was listed at $150 on their site. I paid $10. Now on the site it was a single growth with three babies and this one is a single growth with one baby, but still. From the same 3 for $30 table bought a Sedirea hybrid and a Den moniliforeme Benikomachi.
At another table I couldn’t resist a Tolumnia Genting Angel. Also picked up a small NOID Desert Rose. Want to give it a try again. Hey 8 bucks. Lynda picked up a beautiful Bromeliad.

Hopefully pics tomorrow

Looking good, Tarev!

Actually I did purchase some stuff in July, but that was selected in the Ecuagenera greenhouses and they will ship it from Miami in September. Thumbs up Should be interesting.

Ted, I am looking forwards to see your citrina blooming, I have now two good plants and can't get them to bloom. You have different conditions, surely you will do well.

You lucked out with your Nishidemiyako! Thumbs up Nice Fukurin striping!
Have fun growing!

I didn't buy this, but a lady in my garden club gave it to me to try and save it- Encyclia tampensis. She used to live in FL and didn't take it from the wild, really, but found it in the street or yard after a big storm.
It was in an awful container and stayed too wet, I'm no expert but most of the roots look dead.
Any suggestions on what to do with it? I think they like to be mounted on Oak but I've never mounted anything.
Ursula, I know you have a lovely one, maybe I should send it to you for rescue!

Susan, it doesn't look bad at all. You can clean up the "roots and mess" a bit and simply tie it to a piece of wood and hang it up, or place it into a wooden basket. I like to use a bit of coconut fiber to anchor it. Fertilize along with your other plants. It is a good time to do this now, it will be fine. You will enjoy the nice blooms comes next Spring! Thumbs up

Oh, thank you! That is good to hear. I think I'll try a wooden basket (will have to buy some), that way once it recovers a little I can return it to her, maybe she can keep it for the summer and I can keep it over the winter.

Ted,
Here is an article about your E. citrina from my cubit in 2010. I had one for several years but it didn't bloom and then went off to orchid heaven. http://cubits.org/orchids/arti...

I am only familiar with the Coelogyne fimbriata, I am growing two plants of this for several years now. We can compare notes.

Yes, Ted, you did very good. Where did you find those buying shoes on the west coast? I have the Epi. ciliare and love it. I really like the Trichoceros as well. They all seem healthy.

My haul from Larry's Orchids arrived today and I can sum it up in one word: TINY. This is just another reason not to order by mail. I'll probably be dead before these babies get to bloomiing size. Actually, the Oncidium is not too bad but the rest are $2.00 seedlings.

I took a field trip today and drove down to Sarasota to collect a palm and to stop by Plantio La Orquidea just to see what was new. It seems that Rafael and I both like Brassavolas and Schomburgkias. First, here is my new palm called a Windamere or Trachycarpus latisectus.
Thumb of 2013-08-14/hawkarica/c6a15b

I got Susan a David Sander:
Thumb of 2013-08-14/hawkarica/4ac904

My Digbyana is dying a slow death due to the dredded black rot so I got a replacement on a stick. No black rot now. It is a very nice size.
Thumb of 2013-08-14/hawkarica/8afc66

Now here is some big news. Rafael and his buddies have crossed a David Sander with a digbyana. It has no name yet but he had a few plants and I got one. I can't wait to see the flower.
Thumb of 2013-08-14/hawkarica/54d10e

Over on the Schomburgkia side, I picked up a large Mcp brysiana, var. semi alba, in bloom.
