Which wildflowers are blooming up north?
Here it is blue flax, tidy tip daisies, California poppies, Siberian wallflowers.

Caroline, I promise to get the camera out and take some pics soon. Until then, you'll just have to imagine the meadow with wild carrot (or Queen Anne's lace) and golden rod swaying in the wind.

I have some really majestic stinging-nettles this year. The ones growing along the side of the barn have reached a height of about 6ft.

I don't think there is anything left blooming here, I have been too busy for weeks with company to look, I will have to check the hillsides.

As promised, a pic of Queen Anne's lace and goldenrod.

I also have a pic of the awesomely tall nettles, but although I "rotated' it to make it upright, it is posting sideways on ATP. Back to the drawing board...

Here's white snakeroot blooming in the woods, on the floodplain of the stream. It's been flowering for a long time, and shows no sign of stopping.
Thumb of 2013-08-21/JuneOntario/22adb1

I'll try to post the tall nettle pic again (fingers crossed it comes out upright, or you'll have to look at it lying down).

Does sedge count as a "flower"? At least I think it's a sedge, about 4ft tall, growing in a very boggy spot. I'll need to put on waterproof boots to get a close-up pic.

I braved the mosquitoes to take pics of some more wildflowers today. I found two kinds of jewelweed in bloom, the spotted jewelweed with orange flowers and the pale jewelweed with yellow flowers. These normally grow in damp soil around the margins of the pond and on the floodplain of the stream, but this summer we've had so much rain they are everywhere!

I have two different white asters flowering at the moment. One is short and is growing on dry soil among grass and Queen Anne's lace, but the other is tall and narrow-leaved and growing on the bank of the pond. I'm confused wih all the different asters, so I'm not even going to guess at their names!

This very tall (7ft+) plant growing on the bank of my pond perfectly matches the description for Green-headed Coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata) in the Peterson Field Guide to Wildflowers, so I'm fairly confident that's what it is!

Here's a couple of goldenrods, the "regular" and the "flat topped". Possibly Solidago canadensis and Solidago graminifolia, but I'm no botanist!

More asters are blooming. The purple one I'm fairly sure is Symphiotrichum novae-angliae, the New England Aster, but the very pale violet one is a mystery to me. The mystery aster grows in moist soil, and has a pale, hairy stalk with purple patches where the leaves join the stem. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks, Margaret!

There's a very tall, yellow sunflower that I'm hoping to take a picture of in the next few days, but so far all the open blooms are way up above my head-height and facing skywards. If no flowers open nearer to the ground, I'll need a step ladder!

I finally got a pic of the tall sunflower by standing on tiptoe and holding the camera at arm's length above my head to reach the top of one of the shorter stems. It could be Jerusalem Artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) or Giant Sunflower (Helianthus giganteus) or - you tell me!

June, very pretty, I think it is a wild sunflower. That's a good photo of the bloom and leaves. Thumbs up
