I'm fascinated by this plant, Josephine; I've never seen it. I doubt very much it would easily grow here; I don't even recognize the names of the butterflies as being common in this area.

My problem is that I want every new wildflower I see and frostweed is definitely one of the most beautiful. I've read that they will grow here in zone 7a, so I'm tempted to try it. I hate to take them from their native land, though, so maybe I should just sit back and enjoy yours from afar, same way I enjoy your bluebonnets.

I just read that, but it surprises me that I haven't seen that 'frost' look. Maybe I just wasn't around it when it was that cold. I vaguely remember that it might have been one of the plants we called 'Indian tobacco', not sure, but maybe. It's the 'frost' look that has me confused. I wish I had known botanical names when I was learning about medicinal plants all those years ago, it would have helped me remember. I'm going back to the mountains mid September and I'll look for it then for sure. If I can't find it there then we'll talk about your seeds. How's that??

Yes, it is also known as Indian tobacco, and probably a few other names.
This plant volunteered in my yard when i started to let plants come up and do their thing.
I also got Western Ironweed and Goldenrod as volunteers as well. It is amazing what nature will provide if you let her.

There's another plant makes frosty formations in the winter, pluchia odorata. Like you said, I have to get out there first thing in the morning to see the formations. Amazing to see!

Yes, there are a few plants that make ice formations, they are all amazing.

thanks for the seed offer but didn't mean to throw out a need of them. I just assumed I can get some "off the rack" or maybe find some that might be local. For all I know I may have friends or customers who know this plants. And yes, we get cold here but the past few years it depends on if we believe "global warming" or, as this past summer has shown, "global cooling".
