I'm fascinated by this plant, Josephine; I've never seen it. I doubt very much it would easily grow here; I don't even recognize the names of the butterflies as being common in this area.

My problem is that I want every new wildflower I see and frostweed is definitely one of the most beautiful. I've read that they will grow here in zone 7a, so I'm tempted to try it. I hate to take them from their native land, though, so maybe I should just sit back and enjoy yours from afar, same way I enjoy your bluebonnets.

Thank you!

Thank you Sharon, I want all the wildflowers too and actually I think this one could do fine for you in Kentucky.
The wildflower center says that it is native in your state as well, check this link

I can send you some seeds this fall if you like. Smiling

I just read that, but it surprises me that I haven't seen that 'frost' look. Maybe I just wasn't around it when it was that cold. I vaguely remember that it might have been one of the plants we called 'Indian tobacco', not sure, but maybe. It's the 'frost' look that has me confused. I wish I had known botanical names when I was learning about medicinal plants all those years ago, it would have helped me remember. I'm going back to the mountains mid September and I'll look for it then for sure. If I can't find it there then we'll talk about your seeds. How's that??

It might be here in W KY and I'll look here also, but my chances are better there, I think.

Thank you so much, Josephine. I've been reading about it tonight.

Yes, it is also known as Indian tobacco, and probably a few other names.
This plant volunteered in my yard when i started to let plants come up and do their thing.
I also got Western Ironweed and Goldenrod as volunteers as well. It is amazing what nature will provide if you let her.

I will be glad to send seeds, but I know that looking around and discovering is a lot of fun too.

You let me know, Please? Smiling

Thank you, Frostweed for writing about this beautiful wildflower.
You have reminded me it's one that I would love to try growing. I think it would do nicely down by the pond.

There's another plant makes frosty formations in the winter, pluchia odorata. Like you said, I have to get out there first thing in the morning to see the formations. Amazing to see!

I feel like growing your frostweed plant just so I can put one in the freezer to see those frost pics. I really like that plant! AND your pics.

Best to you and yours!

thanks for the seed offer but didn't mean to throw out a need of them. I just assumed I can get some "off the rack" or maybe find some that might be local. For all I know I may have friends or customers who know this plants. And yes, we get cold here but the past few years it depends on if we believe "global warming" or, as this past summer has shown, "global cooling". Hilarious!

Thanks again for the offer though. If I have a hard time finding the seeds I'll be sure to holler!
