There was a nice clump of Verbena bonariensis.

And the stairs were lined with brightly coloured Celosia.

I had not seen such a big clump of it.
My camera does not do it justice as it was a purple colour.

The first time I saw it was at a nursery, done in a mass płanting too. Just gorgeous! Then I had to get some. Loved it! Then I got tired of it spreading all over. Then I moved where I have LOTs of space and I LOVE it again!

Calgary is zone 3 so we miss some of the good growing that you people can experience.
But then peonies grow well here.

Cool pics! FWIW, that Verbena looks better up there in a bed than it does on the side of the road down here.
