OK folks, here it is, such as it is and always subject to change:

Thumb of 2013-11-25/pardalinum/7aae2e

No more getting down on my knees to weed here! There are at least thirty species and cultivars of succulents, alpines and my "backbone" plants stuffed on this.

I agree

It can always be made a bit deeper around the sides if necessary.

Beautiful miniature landscape in a raised container! Smiling

Thanks all! Regarding the shallower edge areas, I think it will be ok as is. This is where I plant sempervivums and some sedums that don't require much depth. Along the front and back edges you can see I placed 1 x 2" strips and along the short sides some rocks I scavenged from around the yard. I will remove all those in the spring; there should be enough roots established to keep the soil from washing away. I'm also looking forward to the wood taking on a more "seasoned" look over the next year or so.

I specifically shopped for some plants that would give good fall-into-winter color:

Blooming on the table now, Nov. 26: Erica darleyensis:

Nice colorful plants! Is that a variegated type euphorbia next to the Calluna? I've been looking for the more ground-covering type euphorbia and out here I find mostly the shrub-type euphorbias...

Yes, Bev, it is a variegated euphorbia but I lost or misplaced the ID. I have two other euphorbias on the table, 'Blue Haze' and 'Ruby Glow'.

The other "backbone" plants along the center high section are Premna microphylla, Rhododendron Hino-Crimson (an azalea), and I also have a low growing deciduous stonecrop Hylotelephium spectabile 'Crystal Pink'. I'm really looking forward to how this all looks next year!

"Mud slide train wreck in Oregon!"

Gomez Adams comes to mind! Hilarious!

All in fun now! A gardener has to have a since of humor and When those roots get set you will not have to worry about mudslides Connie, and I love your project! Thumbs up

No, no trains allowed! Fortunately there are no electrical outlets nearby!

For plants near the edge the roots should become "air pruned" and plant growth controlled by that. I really wouldn't want things to grow too fast on the table!

Gomez Adams was hilarious. I sure miss those simple funny shows!

Wow, Connie it is wonderful. And I love the interest the rocks add to the scene.

Is that Euphorbia 'Ascot Rainbow'? Love that one.
You used such a wonderful mix of plants for year round interest. Hurray!

I really don't know which euphorbia that is, Lynn. I must have been in a real hurry when I planted it because I don't see it documented on my map nor my list of plants. I must have bee distracted! I may have picked it up off Garland's discount table which is where plants land if they have been in a pot too long or the label is lost. I always check that area out every time I go!

This is a good time of year to shop for heathers, you can see what is blooming. Maybe next week I will do that.

I have Ascot Rainbow on my wish list. It might be too big a plant for a shallow root garden.
