I really love this plant. It grows robustly to 8 feet or so and blooms it's head off for months. If the winter weather cooperates, it displays from September till April for us. A great food source for the overwintering Annas hummingbirds we are blessed with.

Who else grows this?

Very pretty, Kermit! Smiling

What is the lowest temperature it has endured and continued to bloom?

Since it's a Fall and Winter bloomer, I may not order it next year.

Gorgeous flowers, Kermit! Drooling Lovey dubby Thumbs up

Good question about lowest temp and blooming. Outside Zone 9 it is a herbaceous perennial, blooming in the Fall.

Thanks, but I was actually looking for a more specific temperature. The reason I ask is that even though I am in zone 7b/8 we rarely get temperatures below 20F. In last winter's mild beginning, the 'Byron Flynt' plant that I got from you, Kermit, continued blooming through mild freezes until January because the temperatures never fell below 28F. When temps went below 28F, it died back. We've had a strangely quick descent into winter this year, so it has frozen back already. That has been rare lately though and the mild freezing temps in the first half of winter are more common. In the future, I thought it might be fun to find some Salvia cultivars that can take some freezes and remain green and blooming, like 'Byron Flynt' did last year. It was so fun seeing those big blue blooms on the dreary winter days. Lovey dubby

Sorry not to be able to be more precise. This one has bloomed through high 20s for us, and the worst of storms. We continually gather information, so your information helps.

I like the fuzzy flowers...unfortunately it flowers too late in the season to be a hummingbird nectar source in northern Delaware.
