Okay, here is what is planned so far for the weekend of May 2, 3 and 4 of 2014.
Please let me know which tours you want to go on.

Raised beds at Valleylynn's place and Perennial Obsessions on Friday, May 2, 2014
Morning, whatever time you get here (Lynn's house).
1. Coffee/tea will be on and easy breakfast food available, plus easy buffet lunch. Graze as you play out around the raised beds.
2. Sometime after 3:00 p.m. we will head over to Perennial Obsession. She has some wonderful new semps and sedum available this year. You will get to see them in real life before deciding which ones will go home with you. I haven't even seen them yet.

The other nursery you should visit is Dancing Oaks. About 12-15 miles from me. They have a bit of everything. You can check out their web site.

I hope you all aren't too braindead when you come to my class@!! I have tough assignments for you all. Greg is in charge of counting the leaves on each rosettes, for example..... (Maybe that will get a response Lynn!)

Went out and took a few photos of some of the pretty red/ green bicolors that are showing up in the new seedlings. The weather is supposed to drop like a rock on Monday so I brought the seedling pots in which there was germination into the garage and have left the fluorescent lights. There are ~50 up in the pot of 'Roasted Chestnuts' X self plus a good number from 'Frost and Flame' X 'Pacific Blue Ice'. Didn't want to lose any of those babies!

Hope you're full of turkey!

Kevin

I haven't had my coffee yet, not sure why Greg would be counting leaves on the rosettes? Blinking
Is this something like a snipe hunt? Sticking tongue out

Dancing Oaks is amazing. It's 13 miles from me and takes about 25 minutes to get there. The views once you get up into the hills are beautiful.

I haven't planted my seeds yet, waiting until the end of Jan, or maybe even Feb.
It will be interesting to see what comes from 'Roasted Chestnuts' X self. But I really want to see what you get from 'Frost and Flame' X 'Pacific Blue Ice', two of my favorite light colored semps.

Because it is a test/chore that will verify if Greg has gone brain dead after Friday's nursery hopping; of course our Greg will pass with flying semp colors... Smiling

Lynn,

You must not have been trained by the nuns. There was always one bad boy in the class and the nun would give them a "special assignment" that would keep them busy and not disturb the others. Counting leaves/ rosette is just one of those sorts of tasks and and of course Greg is our "bad boy". But no, I won't have him counting leaves. First, I'm NO NUN and I'm sure Greg will be soaking in all the new seedlings and cultivars from the UK. Almost all of the latter are looking really good right now and I look forward to using them in crosses. I am going to have to train Greg on how wonderful the green/ red bicolors are.

I self pollinated 'Roasted Chestnut' because it was from mixed seed from Erwin Geiger and I'd like to know what its parents might be like. It is such a bright color but I would like it even better if it were twice as big. I'm hoping some of the kids will be bigger versions. Also the color distribution on the leaves is opposite from most of the red/ green bicolors with the red towards the tips, not the base.

The cross of the two "blue-ish" cultivars was to try to get bluer ones. I also have crosses of 'Frost and Flame' onto 'Blue Boy' and 'Pacific Blue Ice' X 'Blue Boy'. Think all of these could be good combinations.

You are right that the views of the Cascades foothills are stunning on the trip to Dancing Oaks. What a gorgeous sight at the nursery too.

Thumbs up

No nuns in my life, so I missed that lesson. Green Grin!
And we all know that Greg can not pass up on any color of semp. Whistling

I look forward to seeing the new crosses this spring. Hurray!
