Dave, several online sites show this as more finely textured than your image so I am wondering if this isn't something more along the lines of Umbrella Papyrus (Cyperus alternifolius).

@Dave recently posted a picture of a stand of Cyperus alternifolius. I am glad I saw it...I have a couple of stands of them and thought they were just tall weeds. I did not plant them, and though we have dug them out or cut them down, they just spring back up again. Now I know... Big Grin
