Thanks. Who's Roscoe? I only saw 3 reviews, one raving saying it is strong and pretty, the other saying it was flimsy. They sort of cancelled each other out. The other said he was missing hardware.

I've never heard of this greenhouse before and it seems to be a relative newcomer to the marketplace. $998 is a nice discount from the original $1400 price but I'm not sure it's even worth $1000. It has two vents but they are not automatic. At 8x12 it is 96 square feet.

The HFGH is $680 plus $90 for shipping = $770

Add four automatic vent openers ($26 each) http://www.harborfreight.com/g... and you're now at about $880. That's a $120 savings from the Palram one, and is bigger with automatic vents.

I think if I was looking for a ~$1000 greenhouse, I'd look at the harbor freight one.

There's a coupon code active right now on Harbor Freight that takes 20% off a single item. So that brings the greenhouse down another $136. Man, I'm now thinking about buying one of these.

I am in my fourth greenhouse, the first one huge and professionally built (hurricane Katrina eliminated that one), and the last three came as kits. Each one has been better quality/better esthetics than the one before it. By the fourth one, I knew what to look for and what to lookout for. Each one was of a different manufacturer. All were 10x12'. The last one was a DuraMax, sold through Greenhouse Nation. I actually looked at a Harbor Freight GH before I purchased the DuraMax.

I don't like to be negative about any product I have not owned, but from what I saw and the feedback I got convinced me this was not a GH I wanted to own. I am quite handy and could certainly do all the "improvements" to make the HF greenhouse more durable, but I chose to build a GH with strength already there. I did pay more for the DuraMax than I could have bought the Harbor Freight GH for, but after doing all the necessary modifications, the cost would have basically been similar.

I like the GH that is being sold at Home Depot, at least the picture looks similar to what my DuraMax looks like. I would prefer a 10x12' over an 8x12' since I have extensive shelving on both sides of my greenhouses. The added head-room is nice. My DuraMax is only 7' tall. That being said, since I cannot actually see how the Home Depot GH is put together or what the quality of the materials is, I can't say "yes" or "no" to this structure.

One thing that is very important, regardless of the brand of GH. Be sure to do everything necessary to get the foundation both level and square.

I have read many of the blogs and shared them with DH. He is confident with a few conduit pipes for added support, and some foil tape to secure the panels in(The main complaints), we can rig up the HF greenhouse to at least to where it will stand sturdy and tall. And at that price, we can also afford to hire someone to help me construct it "right and tight" since DH will be of limited help. The polycarbonate is not double walled like the Palram.

Palram is all over Amazon and this model regularly sells for $1300 on there. There are features that I like better with the Palram but only one, really, the threshold is wan mower friendly. Since I plan to use it like a shed, and also wheel some large pots into it in the winter, an good threshold is a plus in my book. But is it work $250? And it is smaller.

And Yes @Dave. That is still a good price on the HF. Actually better than the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal. I looked. There is a 25% coupon which makes it worth almost $170, Shipping is about $100. OI'll try to find the link to the coupon for you. The box is about 8 feet X 24" x 24"l and weighs 200#. Too much for me to haul into the garage even if I COULD get it into the car. (I could with a big push!)
@Drdawg The ONLY reason I am even still considering the HF GH is the price difference and the size. For one 10'x 12" is hard to find The closest to that size is 8' x 12" running anywhere between $2-3000. Even if I added $1000 worth of material to the HF GH, which I won't I would still come way below the prices they have to offer out there.

Lots to think about.

The 10x12' DuraMax is not even close to $2000-3000 in cost. And no, the company offers me nothing.

@Drdawg. Please sent me the link to the Duramax 10 x 12" that is not close to $2000. I have done some research and found nothing less $2000. This was the cheapest I could find but still $1000 more than the HF gh. Please remember, We don't have as harsh winters as you.

Are you sure? In my looking around, it seems like the HFGH comes with double wall poly panels.

I remember reading that blog a long time ago when I was considering one of these before. On that blog they specifically say that it's twinwall poly. There's a question about how long the poly lasts (some say only a couple years!)

Are you getting one, @Dave? You get it first, build it and honestly tell me if I can constructed for the most part by myself.

DH wants me to get the Harbor Freight GH. The price difference is just too staggering. I'm sort of tired of researching and shopping around. $606/delivered when all is said and done with the coupon. The coupon can be used once a day thru March. The openers are on sale now for $25.99 each. I can use the coupon over the next 4 days and save a total of $32 towards them. This is a big decision only because I am the builder. Scary, huh? If it falls apart we won't know whether to blame the greenhouse or me.

I'm getting one, too. I'm expecting that in a few years I'll have to replace the poly panels but overall I expect that I'll be happy. We shall both see!!

I am going to follow the advice on that blog you linked to, especially the part about using 4x6 timbers as the foundation instead of just putting the greenhouse directly on the ground. I advise you to do the same!

As for your idea of ordering a different opener each day: don't you have to pay shipping again for each order?

4x4 treated lumber is plenty large if properly anchored.

I certainly understand that premise, Dave. Several of the posts were from women who were going to do the (bulk of the) GH building, and a 12' long, 4x6" piece of treated lumber is awfully heavy. All my greenhouses have a 4x4" foundation, anchored by 3' long, 1/2" rebar, placed approximately every 3' and driven at angles. The rebar is attached to the 4x4's with metal straps, the kind used in building rafters. The greenhouses may blow away but those foundations won't move. It is really important to have the foundation level and square. I spent far more time on the foundations than on building the GH's themselves.

So far the Solar Blanket covering is doing what I hoped it would. We have already had 9 nights of 20's (all in November!) and the prediction is for 4 more nights in the 20's next week. This kind of cold for NE Mississippi is unheard of so early in the season. The bubble wrap appears to be holding the heat in and keeping the cold out.
