I'm new to this forum. I apologize if the care of these plants has already been covered. I don't have time right this minute to catch up. I need to move the few plants I have to another room while we start a remodel in the current room. I figured since I have to move them I should tidy them up since they are going into a much smaller space.

First let me say I cannot believe I have kept these plants alive for four years! I have never had any luck with houseplants. I'm an outdoor gardener.

The story: My husband got this planter at his mother's funeral. It had six plants total in it. All very tiny things and they looked great all in there. But soon they grew and did not fit. I split them up and made several other planters. The only plant that did not survive was a kalanchoe (sp??).

I do not know the names of these plants but I'm fairly certain the big long vines are philodendron. And someone told me the plant currently in the original planter is a prayer plant, but it is not what I thought was a prayer plant.

This is a delicate vine. It does not grow very fast.

This plant get tall and falls over. The bottom leaves all dried out but there is some new growth.
I don't know how to replant it. It does have some new growth





I apologize for the poor quality pick here. This is what I believe to be philodendron. I have cut it back many times and have a million other planters going plus two vines in just water

It looks like you were given a nice array of plants to remember your MIL. I'll give it a go with the plant id From top to bottom: peace Lily, pothos, Corn Plant, marginata, and some type of Palm there are many types.

Thank you Cheryl! The peace lily is what I confused with prayer plant! My peace lily has never bloomed but it does at least seem to be somewhat happy. I recently took it out and gave it all new dirt.

The corn plant is the one I am most unsure how to replant. And I was wondering if I can just cut it back to keep it from getting so leggy. Does it need more light maybe?

The philodendron, oops! pothos, is getting giant leaves and thick stems as it gets longer. I like this but I am not sure if it is good or not



I was thinking of cutting it at a spot where the leaves are dying off. But I really don't want to lose this part of the vine

Cut the corn plant back, 4-6" above the soil-line. They always grow leggy and cutting back is the only way to have a good looking , smaller plant. I had a huge peace lily, about 36" wide and 3 years old, with dozens of blooms in the spring/summer. It stayed outside during the spring, summer and early fall months, and that's perhaps why it always has bloomed so well. Our unusual early cold took it away. I have now lost several dozen jade and several dozen aloe vera (some really large ones), numerous schefflera and rubber trees. I simply did not have room for them inside. Oh well, less mouths to feed in the spring.

Ok, corn plant trimmed. Nice new basal growth. I couldn't just throw out the tops so i dipped on rooting hormone and stuck in pots. No idea if it will work but figured it couldn't hurt!



What is the best lighting for it?

Philodendron, NO! Pothos cuttings planted up. Used a tomato cage and broken little trellis. Still a bit messy but I think it will settle in and be nice.

Bright, indirect light for the Dracaenas. The Parlor palm wants shade. The Philodendron, and Pothos both like indirect as well, and yes, it is a good thing that you're seeing them getting 'giant' leaves, and thick stems. Sounds like they are happy! The Peace lily can handle low light as well, but mine seem to do better with bright indirect. Good growing!

I aerated the soil in the marginata and mixed in fresh potting soil. I also added the smaller delicate vine that I'm very confused on the name!

I made a new planter with more of the delicate vine

And finally the area where I had to jam it all into while the den gets redone

Ok, I got it. The delicate vine is the heartleaf philodendron. The other hardier, waxy vine is the pothos.

Dracaena is corn plant.

Whew, i was confused.

The solid green is the Philodendron…The variegated one is most likely a Pothos. Looks good!

Oops…crossed there! Yes, you got it! They can get confusing!

Ken I am sorry to hear about the loss of your plants! That is very sad.

Thanks, Tara, but they have been on life-support for years. They just keep multiplying and I have had to leave more and more of them out to fend for themselves during winter. We had pretty mild winters the previous two years but this year has been a real disaster, cold-wise.

It's not like I don't have any plants left to take care of, you understand. Two GH's and a porch packed with plants. I am about to ship out 13 mounted staghorns, so that opens up a tiny bit of space. So that's good.
