They make nests usually two cells wide. They are on the railings of my stairs. They sting me occasionally. Not too painful. I don't mind them - they are mainly nectar feeders. Sooner or later a human visitor is going to get stung though. Sigh.

June, yes they are strongly attached. One stung me this morning. I am glaring at them. But notice how some don't have wings. Would they be the workers? It seems they do everything out in the open. I will try and get better photos. The camera keeps on focussing behind them.
