How are the Northern gardeners doing as real winter has been here for sometime?
Too cold to even think about winter sowing. All the potting soil is frozen!

Happy Winter Solstice to you too, and thanks for reminding me bring in a bag of potting soil from the unheated garage, Caroline!

We're into freezing rain now, on top of the snow. It was kind of crunchy going out to fill the bird feeders this morning. I had to stamp my feet to break through the crust, or I would have gone sliding down to the bottom of the garden. I sent DH out to get groceries in his SUV, as I was afraid my car (which has low clearance) would not get over the wall of now frozen-solid slush that the snowplow left at the end of our driveway. Gotta love winter!

We have real, live snow finally! Two or three inches worth from yesterday.
A friend posted this photo on FB; thought the folk on this forum would appreciate it. Smiling

And thanks for the reminder about it's being Solstice. I'd forgotten! *Blush*

Two days and the days get longer, to me, I have grown to like the short winter days and the Christmas lights that come on when the Sun goes down.
Including the Orthodox Christmas, we have Christmas for about a month starting in six days Hurray! I tip my hat to you. .

Caroline, I bet that girl you are hugging is a lot bigger now.

Hi Caroline, time sure goes fast, 6 already, eh.

Weather here is nasty, day 3 of cold -6C/21F, snowing and blowing, so far not a big accumulation of the stuff. Still Dh has to go out and shovel every day to keep on top of it.

We had a relatively warm December, mid 30s, very pleasant. Back to reality now 0/-18C for the low 14/-10 C for the high. Days are getting longer, 16 min and 24 sec, but whose counting! Sun angle is better.

Twenty days till that day this year, but so far late Fall has been nippy some days but generally very, very mild.
(I do hope we get some snow before Christmas but not a given this year.

Going out next week to get a Christmas Tree.
I have said it before BUT this year I WILL get one BEFORE the week, or days, before Christmas.
That has been a rarity the past ten years, actually the past 30 years. Shrug!

Likely a brown Christmas here too as the winter seems to be predicted as milder and less precipitation.

Hi Caroline, haven't seen you post in awhile. Smiling

So far we only have a dusting of snow, we are still in a drought, all the big rains have missed us.

I seem to have been ignoring this thread for quite some time... looking forward to the days getting longer instead of shorter! Very little snow on the ground here, and we're supposed to have above-freezing high temps for the next couple of weeks, with some rain on Saturday. Are we sure it's actually December? This was from December 1st of 2019 --

No snow here either and my thermometer got up to 48 today and the sun was shining. It was a lovely day for a long walk. They are predicting snow tomorrow and we can sure use it as there has been no moisture for quite awhile which is concerning for the perennial plants and shrubs. But...it has been such lovely weather it will help make winter seem a lot shorter which I am grateful for. Smiling
