Yikes!

Its cold today!

Yet our Northern friends are REALLY COLD. I can't imagine what they are going through. We've been really lucky so far this year and I was hoping it wouldn't get any colder then this.

It would be great to not have to cover everything and drag things in. I hope the weather guru's are right when they say its only gonna' be 44 tonight. Smiling 33 for Monday? Yuck! That means a drag, pull, and cover Sunday for sure;............Sheeeeougt!

I'm heading out of town for a week.........................so, if we get a freeze while w are away, the plants will freeze. Moved many pots to the GH & shed for safe keeping. Told my cat sitter to PLEASE pick the lettuce before it freezees.

I am so ready for more 80 degree days!!!!!

Never fails. I plan a trip & that is when the COLD comes in & gets my plants. We are to have 2 nites in the "20s" next week. I'll put the trash cans out & hopefully my cat sitter will plop those over a few plans for me. And I'll have to prepare myself for coming home to a brown lawn & nipped plants.
I have a few BIG sheets of cardboard & am hoping that can be plopped over the raised bed to protect the lettuce. I know it will all come back but it will be a bleak few months till then.

It's 60 degrees and raining here. And I mean, it's gray and a drizzle! This is unheard of for January!
I know I shouldn't complain but really.... Grumbling

Jean, frost cloth can be left on your beds for a week or so with probably not much problem. It lets through enough light to keep the plants alive, but insulates pretty well. It might be your best bet.

I get mine in sheets 50ft. long from an online source. It's not expensive.

I know most of us Florida gardeners know how to try and save what we can, but one plant just came into my mind that I almost forgot to handle right...

If anyone has variegated Tapioca Trees, they will not make it from the tops in this extra cold weather. Remember before the Sun sets to zip out and cut all the branch tops off at about a foot and a half and plunge them in a bucket of water and bring in. Youll have trees a-many next Spring if you care to. Wrap the base well and it will come back from the bottom usually.

Anyways, Good Luck in your gardens tonight! Smiling I tip my hat to you.

Showing 28 on FI & where we are, closer to the river, it should be a few deg warmer. I think most of my plants can survive upper 20s.
Here in Orlando, my phone shows 36.

Yes! Brrr! When I got up this am, it was 28…Since then it's continued to drop! It's now 25, but the sun is beginning to shine! I'm hoping that we will be able to see our predicted high of 41!!!!! Blinking
No dog walking this am! They are refusing to go out!!!!
