I love Florida, I can't say that enough. The heat and droughts in TX are still happening and I feel for all who endure it. Dave and Trish I miss being near you guys, but I don't miss triple digits at all!
It is evening here and as is usual it is raining. My plants are going crazy! They think that they are in Heaven! My roses are strutting their stuff so far with no problems, in spite of the warnings about rose failures here.
Company is coming from TX in a few weeks and there is an endless list of things to do with them for entertaining while they are here.
I love Florida!

Okay folks, this is really sad & we need to do something about it PDQ!!!!!! The last post on this thread was Aug. 7th. Shame on us! Now I know in Aug. & Sept. in Fl. there isn't much looking pretty in our gardens & combine that with all the drought so many have had & well it's pretty dismal out there. I also know how dad gum HOT it is out there this time of year but we have let this forum wither on the vine. what's happened to us all? We used to keep up a regular chatter. Can't we make a little better effort?

I'm willing to do it. I can't do much about gardening photos & such as I'm in between gardens now since moving & waiting to get a house built so I can get back to gardening but that doesn't mean I'm dead. I need to learn about my new zone & what I can do here.

I for one, hate to see this happen to us. Do you think we could all make a little more effort to get back to the way we used to be? Fl. is an unusual state to garden in & we all used to share our failures & triumphs so well. What's happened?

Shrug!

You're so right/ I am guilty of neglecting my yard the past few weeks. We finally got my mother' house done as far as economically feasible and are putting it hat ne the market o that should free up some time. They have also called a temporary halt to our overtime. At the moment I am taking a break from giving my bedroom a good going over. I have boxes of jewelry supplies and seeds stacked up in here that need to get into their new storage cabinets so I'm sorting through those too. I have a ton of old old seeds I need to dispose of. For the fun of it I may dump them all in 1 bowl and toss them in the far corner of the yard and see if anything comes up. LOL We have also been having evening showers almost every night so it's hard to get out for long after work. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Dumping all those old seeds into a bowl & tossing them in the far corner of the garden sounds like a capital idea Jan! I can't wait to see what pops up in there. Sometimes I just love surprises in my garden!

Yep I've done it before and it's fun to try to ID them as they grow. You inevitably end up have to move them to different areas depending on what they are.

I found an eggplant growing in a flowerbed yesterday. At least that is what it looks like. I didn't plant but two of them this year and I bought plants instead of planting by seed. Then I moved on to the next flowerbed and found a tomato plant. I suppose there were seeds either in some re-used soil or else a bird dropped some seed. That was a nice surprise. The tomato plant has blooms on it. I don't suppose they will develope now due to the nighttime temps being too high. They may survive for my fall garden and bring on some treats then.

If I have time, I'll take some pics of them. I am kind of busy as my mom and sis are flying in on Friday. I thought they might have to re-schedule, but Irene gave us a break, so here they come!

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! For all your news!
You should be able to baby the mater along till temps. cool & you never know, you might get fruit off these blooms. Really neat about the eggplant.

HI everyone, I was asked to post this over here, there is a RU planned in Oct.

"HI ALL,
Mark your calendars-RU is scheduled for Sat. Oct. 22-2011 at my home-5 miles south of Clermont in Lake County. Start time is 10AM Ending time whenever!

Anyone interested in gardening or related items come. In these difficult economic times it is not necessary to bring food or plants if unable. Your presence and knowledge of gardening will be valuable and greatly appreciated. If possible save on gas and carpool with others if traveling a long distance.
I plan to invite several local garden clubs and feel free to do the same in your area. Will establish food and trade list before Oct. 1.
Please reply here so I may get an estimated head count to set up tables for seatin and eatin. No damask tableclothes or Rogers silver. Strictly informal and downhome atmosphere. May have to park some in cow pasture but we'll move the cows out.
YA'LL COME . Really looking forward to seeing everyone.
Bonnie Davis"

That's around the weekend I usually do my annual roundup but since it's fairly close to me, there is no sense in trying to schedule on either side of it because it would be too much for most people to attend both. I am willing to still do mine in October if enough people want to come or I can move it to spring.
