I am new, and just found this article. You are correct about bindweed being horrible! I had never seen it until we bought a home in rural New Mexico. The garden I inherited was full of bindweed and we worked to eradicate it for over 10 years. We managed to get rid of most of it, but never all of it. I'm so happy that we don't have it in my Arizona or present New Mexico gardens.

Glad you don't have to worry anymore about that pesky weed! For more than a century, our gardens were bindweed free. Once you have it, you have to keep after it.

I'm happy too. I think that has to be the worst weed I've ever encountered. At the same place we had kochia (Sp?). They grew huge, and dried out to be huge tumbleweeds, but at least they were easy to pull out, and fairly easy to eradicate.

Many thanks, Mary. I had really good results in a bed that was riddled with bindweed this spring. I swore to pull up every vine that showed its face, shortly after it emerged. I actually stuck with it through the whole season, even though there were many other projects that normally would take precedence. It worked! The bed is now free of bindweed. I'm anxious to see if it will stay that way next spring.
