I was wondering if you will be re-planting these into unglazed clay pots?

Welcome! Jeff.

Just a quick question @Greene. I too have some cactus plants including Ming Thing, but they are still in plastic pots. Should they be repotted into terracotta pots? Should all cactus be in terracotta pots? Just wondering about your question to Jeff. Can't you tell, I'm a newbie to cactus?

@Deebie - Sorry, I am no cactus expert. My daughter has a ton of them and each one I gift to her she immediately repots into unglazed terracotta pots. (Now I even gift the pots to her.) All her plants look healthy so I guess the clay is better than plastic. Let's wait for some cactus experts to chime in - there should be one along soon who knows more than I do.

I'm no expert but have a couple of remarks... I see pros and cons to the terra cotta and plastic used for any plants.
Unglazed terra cotta is porous and I imagine that the soil would dry out faster. Plastic would retain water longer. Terra cotta is heaver and thus harder to move around if you have lots of them and want to rotate or move your pots. Terra cotta has that certain look that plastic doesn't but plastic is lighter to move around and doesn't break when tipped over (which I find happens a lot to some cacti as they reach some height and top heaviness). There's always the nice aesthetics with pots that all match somewhat in material...
I think depending on the collector's preferences and priorities, the choice would be dictated by those factors.

I agree with Bev. Terracotta is nice because it dries quickly, and in humid climates or for those of us who chronically over-water our succulents, it can be a life saver. Now for me, who has humidity levels typically in the teens, it means a lot of extra watering. But that's an unusual case. I waterproof all of my terracotta pots, for that reason and that unless they are really well made (not typical) they tend to have a kinda short lifespan, especially if they are watered a lot.

But the color against green... mmmmm....

Oh, and WELCOME Jeff - watch out for those glochids on your O. microdasys - I can't believe they're popularly known as bunny ears - more like shark's teeth, lol...
In the end, only kindness matters.

Science is not the answer, it is the question.

Thanks, Greene and Sheryl. I tip my hat to you. In the spring, I will be transferring my cactus' to terracotta pots. I do live in a humid climate and yes, I have been known to overwater plants.
