I potted these 2 pots in the same moth of the same year 2012.

Here are the same 2 pots now.



They both had 1 or 2 blooms this year but the plants foliage seems so much healthier in the plastic pot.I believe i give them all the same treatment but if you have many plants it's hard to say that & be absolutely sure!!

Very interesting! The plastic one did start out a little bigger, but no question it grew faster. Both had the same light?

A goal of mine is to move all of the c/s plants to clay pots, but TC/CC's would be last on the list, if I would do it at all. Hanging is what I prefer for these, and they're just so thirsty. I don't have any trouble with these rotting, quite the opposite, occasional wilting.

The flower on the right is especially pretty!! Both are TC's, BTW.

that your observations are interesting. Because of the enormous amount of rain we had during the summer, I'm moving my succulents/cactus to terracotta pots. But I think I'll leave the TCs in plastic pots too.

I have been moving mine to plastic pots as well.I have a problem in the house with the dry heat.Seems like between the pots stealing moisture and the dry heat clay pots are cruel and unusual punishment especially with my lack of watering.I am awful about keeping track of where i started and what has been watered when.I've started pulling them out of the pots and i can see how dry it is,except for my 2 bigger plants.They are in larger plastic pots and a lot easier to judge as simple as by weight.

That looks like the really yellow one my Grandmother used to have. Is it really as yellow as the picture? Beautiful!

Hello David nice to meet you ,don't believe we have met before,if i'm mistaken I'm so sorry.

That is a very old plant it was my moma's and it was neglected for years. When i started getting interested in plants holiday cactus was 1 of the 2 i ended up obsessed with (at 1st.), the other was hoya's.

I have been in the hospital because of having a heart attack and i have a hard time keeping up with the site like i use to but i remember reading someone talking about wanting a yellow HC.Seems i remember it having to do with a family member so that was you looking for a specific color yellow,am i correct?I don't know what forum or thread i read it on but i remember JB showing you some of hers,they just weren't the right shade.

I tell you what i can do is look through my pictures of that plant and post a few more pictures of the flower,that way we can see if my camera has fiddled with the blooms color.

I will just post some pictures and you let me know.I have to send someone else a plant so i would be delighted to send you some cuttings.It needs to be cut back anyway & the last thing i need is more cuttings to propagate!!

BACK TO ORIGINAL TOPIC: I have really had to remember to pay attention/remember (tie a bow around a finger) the ones in terra cotta get more water & watered more often.If i watered the ones in plastic pots as much as the ones in terra cotta the plastic pots would have all rotted away a long time ago.

Would you be interested in Rhipsalis elliptica for instance? It kind of reminds me of Christmas Cactus in a way...

Which is better to use when re potting a christmas catus plant and also what size of pit should you use.

I have a holiday cactus, I think it is Thanksgiving, not sure. It was blooming when I got it a year ago, but nothing since, I have to repot it because the roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot. Several questions, is a terracotta pot alright to use and is it ok to repot it when it is growing new leaves?

Terracotta should be fine. Make sure it has very good light and not too much water. Mine gets watered about once a week, but it is in plastic right now. The next pot will likely be terracotta.

So even though it is growing new leaves I should go ahead and repot it?

I had my hubby help me and we repotted the holiday cactus, it is in a plastic pot a little bigger than the last one, I got some water and watered it in. And put in the same spot in the picture window.
