Hi Kim, and Welcome! to All Things Plants.
You have a very creative eye for container planting. And they all look to be quite tiny. I love them. How long have you been doing them?

Well thanks, ValleyLynn! I've been putting together succulent dish gardens for about 10 years but have only recently wandered into the tiny ones. A friend of mine bought 3 for her stepmother who lives in a nursing home, which they are perfect for due to minimal upkeep. I'm hoping to hit the local farmers' markets come springtime.
Here's a few larger ones:

I am drooling now. Those are beautiful. I see you have a mix of tender and hardy succulents. Great color and texture contrasts.
Kim what are you typing under the photos?

It's not what I'm typing, it's what comes up when I upload a pic. I tried to delete it but then it deleted the pics as well.

Hmmm, I asked Dave to take a look at it and see why it's doing that.
Meanwhile we won't worry about it. Just keep posting those awesome photos. And let us know what kind of potting mix you use. Smiling

Kim, I think we found out why it is doing that.
Here is what Dave said. " It happens when the user is using the Chrome browser with a certain add-on that causes this. I don't remember which add-on it is, though. It could be a malware that is causing it. The software is adding that code to her posts when she makes the post. It's not something I can control, unfortunately."

But don't work if you can't get it figured out. I am loving all of your photos.

Hi Kim ~ welcome to ATP. I love your succulent container designs and am sure you enjoy assembling them immensely.

I noticed many of the succulent plants you used can become monster plants. Do you find they stay small due to the small size of the container? Rather like fish in a small aquarium? Or do you pot them up after a few years?

Do you have the larger parent plants to root cuttings for these? Sorry for the thousands of questions but I am fascinated with the idea... Kristi I'm all ears!

Hi Kristi,
No, I don't mind all the questions in the least. It's nice to know that my container gardens are appreciated. And, yes, like fish, I find a lot succulents only grow as big as their environment will allow. I have to change around containers when one overcrowds more quickly than others. I just pull then apart and build something else. I do use a lot of cuttings from parent plants but for most of these smaller ones I bought gallon containers of plants that can be divided easily like the sedum, crassula and sempervivum.

I'm going to re-take pictures of these same dish gardens to show how much they've grown. My goal with these is to eventually open some kind of business selling them.

Lynn & Dave, thanks for the info. I like Chrome and am use to it so I don't want to change browsers back to firefox so if you don't mind the codes neither do I. Thanks for all the support!

Kim
