I just posted about this book in the mid-South gardening forum (apologies for the cross-post).
http://garden.org/thread/view_...

I received a new book for Xmas, which I have been wishing for since last year, when it was first published: Native Plants of the Southeast: A Comprehensive Guide to the Best 460 Species for the Garden by Larry Mellichamp.

I really like the way it is put together. It shows you how to choose the best native plants and how to use them in the garden. It is broken up into sections with plant profiles for over 460 species of trees, shrubs, vines, ferns, grasses, bog plants, and wildflowers. Each plant description includes information about cultivation and propagation, ranges, and hardiness. Comprehensive lists recommend particular plants for difficult situations, as well as plants for attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and other wildlife. If you can find it at your library, it is worth a look.
