I'm ordering some baobab tree(adansonia rubrostipa and adansonia Grandidieri),
Olive seeds, and ginko biloba seeds.
I Plan to grow them in bonsai style.

Anybody have tips for germinating them?
I will post pics when they germinate.

Also who else is on a growing houseplants from seed binge?

I am not familiar with any of those seeds for houseplants.
I grow plants for the garden from seeds, but then in the fall they are brought back into house as houseplants.

This season I am doing hypoestes (the polka dot plant), coleus, phemeranthus (grey leaved swedish ivy),
calceolaria from seeds.

I've grown baobab from seed before, but I can't remember how I started them, only that they sprouted easily. They made a pretty good house plant, but were really picky about watering when they were dormant in the winter. I tried different soils and amounts of watering, but in the end, lost them all within a few years. Some to over watering and some dried out completely from not enough water.

I've been starting tones of houseplants from seed too, its a lot of fun Big Grin

Adam,
I know you will do well with all that you have do so far. I never did these befor but I would do the same as I do for all my seeds. Soak them in a Root-Tone warm water for a day, then in moist soil with a clear lid. Wait till they are about 2 inches tall, transplant into a small pot with a griddy mix. Some thing that drains easily.
You know you will be pulling it out of it's pots to trim roots as well as stems above.
Keep us posted, we can all learn from you. Good Luck

Well I just ordered some eucalyptus deglupta(rainbow eucalyptus) seeds.
This is a very beautiful tree with a multi colored trunk. It grows fast and large but I'm going to control it size using bonsai techniques.

Adam: I agree, the Rainbow Eucalyptus is indeed a beautiful tree! It would be great to have photo's of the seeds as well as seedlings in the database so I hope you will consider adding a few photo's when available and please don't hesitate to add a comment with any tips regarding sowing the seed and growing them out which would be a big help to others. Good luck with your seeds ... it really is one beautiful tree and I bet the Bonsai form will be amazing!

Here's the link to E. deglupta in the database: Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta)
