we came from here: The thread "February: more of the same." in Farming forum

It is above freezing, but there isn't much of a melt going on. Tomorrow it's back to the teens days and single digits night for a bit, but perhaps warmer next week end.

Spring may be here. We've had no serious frosts in weeks, and everything is quite green!

Woo-hoo! I don't know how anyone survives dairy farming in cold climates.

Porkpal, we've got freezing temps again on the way. But our pastures are green and I'm letting the cows into the main big pasture this morning.

Most of our green in the pastures is still rye and rescue grass, and the freeze should not affect them, but the ash trees are leafing out...

All of our fruit trees have started blossoming, I'm a little worried for a late frost. This has been a really strange winter for us.

I know, our peach trees have started blossoming as well so if we get a hard frost yet we may have no peaches again this year.

Yeah, it's a bit of a heart breaker. I got so excited to see the peaches and the walnuts starting to bloom, but then I get sad thinking I may lose everything. Last year we had a few days of snow in late April and the temps went well below freezing.

you have my sympathy. a couple of years ago, it got up into the low 80s for a couple of days, and the fruit crop was nearly destroyed. This year, I think we may be safe, it looks like a high of 9 tomorrow.

It was 75 this afternoon; now it is 35 and dropping with a 20mph north wind. Winter is back --- again.

It was nice today and I took Lily out to the front porch for a while. Then she came inside and tore thru the house. Running around for all she is worth.

We've had a bit of a melt here.................and it's starting to "smell" less winter-y out...........anyone on a farm will know what I am talking about. It can't come soon enough for me.

Changed the clocks...........I LOVE daylight saving time. Probably the only one here that does; most on other groups I'm on are really gritching about it. Green Grin!

I love daylight savings too! I expect it to be dark for morning chores, but I like some light in the evening so that I can see the animals at least once a day.

Hey, I love it too. I did miss my extra hour of sleep but I really like that extra hour of daylight at the end of the evening.

Myths about Daylight Savings Time:
http://blog.aarp.org/2014/03/0...

suffice it to say, I DON'T LIKE IT! I am very much attuned to the rhythm of the sun and this throws me off badly every year.

I don't like the change back and forth, but I prefer the daylight distribution afforded by the daylight saving time to the standard time. I too live more by the sun than by the clock but evening sun is more useful to me than an early dawn.

I am not a morning person. Dawn isn't much in my book. Much more happy with the extra light at the end of the day.
