When we were on vacation in Manila a few weeks ago, we went to some local nurseries and I took some photos of the plants that they have..I wish I can bring home some Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes.

I tried to ask the names, but they can only give me nicknames, so I figured I will just post and share them here, if anyone knows their true name, would love to know it too!

These ones I know are bromeliads, as to what kind.. Shrug!

Lovely show, Tarev. Thanks! I love to visit nurseries when we travel but my DH has very little patience for it, sadly.

I'm thinking your last picture with the pink foliage might be some spectacularly large Cryptanthus, another type of bromeliad.

Other tropical plants I saw around town, these ones in a local prominent mall called Greenbelt, they have nicely incorporated urban living and nature, a nice little oasis Smiling

The dome-like building is a chapel, glad they have maintained it too, for a peaceful looking ambience

Beautiful! Tarev, on picture #7, are those orchids attached to small palm trees? I can't figure out what they are.

Hi Jonna, I think the orchids are wrapped around thick bamboo poles.

they may have given it a rough texture so the roots can easily grasp it while tying the plants with some twine.

Oh cool, they are vandas! I love the way they mounted them. I couldn't figure it out but this closeup is great. What a dream, I so wish I could find some vanda orchids here. They are grown a couple of states away but no one seems to bring them here to sell. Sad

Jonna, That may be because they require a lot of humidity. We seldom see them here for that reason.

Exactly right Carol! Very high humidity there..my hair gets that full body and just cannot begin or end the day without feeling sticky like scotch tape Hilarious! I wish I have taken photos of the plants that are by the tunnels, overpass, they plant everywhere there, trying to be green, hoping to improve air quality Smiling

Well, humidity I have!! Too much most of the time. I think they would do great here and they are grown commercially in Veracruz which is just across the Gulf. They are starting to grow dendrobians here and I have quite a few of those but I'd really love some vandas. One of these days I'm going to make a road trip to the nurseries in Veracruz, I will need lots of space though, there are so many plants I want.

The pink flowers that remind you of Hoya are probably Rondeletia leucophylla, Panama Rose. I have three shrubs of these in my yard, started from cuttings acquired a little over a year ago. Related to Pentas.

No, that's not me. I was named after my father (John) but my mom decided to leave out the H and add an N. I used to kid her about that and even in an english speaking country it seemed that whoever could spell it, couldn't pronounce it and vice versa. I pretty much gave up early on and answer to almost anything that sounds vaguely like my name, good thing as down here no one can pronounce it OR spell it! So, if you were to call out Johanna around me I'd probably answer but it isn't my name Whistling

Thanks to Tiffany @purpleinopp I now know the name of this lovely tropical plant:
Calathea lancifolia

And this is how I transplanted the Calathea's at my mom-in-law's garden:

What a great set-up at your mom's tarev. Someone was thinking when they built that wall.
