I received some stapelia seeds last week, and earlier this week they sprouted. I have them in a shallow tray right now and I'm wondering when is it safe to transplant them, and what size container should I use? Thanks

Very cool. I would leave them intact for a bit to get established. Then you should be able to 'pick' them out and move them up. The critical part will be to not overwater so I wouldn't overpot.

I haven't tried that but know a gal that did and I saved her info. Let me read through it and see what she said. Maybe send you a link... good luck!

Thanks Kristi and Hetty. Most of the seeds sprouted in 5-6 days. A link would be wonderful, and should I email Stush2019? I tried looking online for stapelia seedling care but I couldn't find much info it. I have a few two inch pots that I can transplant them in when the time comes. Thumbs up

Cameron,
Doing fine so far. How many seeds did you start with? How many germinated? Myself, I got 100 seeds from EBay and got 25 plants so far. With my Huernia, I got 35 out of 100 seeds. I have just transplanted my Huernia seeds from their pan into their first pots. I used plastic 3 oz. Dixie Cups with holes in bottom and used a paper 3 oz. cup inside. Helps to wisk water up. I placed them in a cake pan with plastic lid, $1 at most grocery stores. Need the high humuity untill they get a full root system.
I waited untill they started growing beyound the first two litter arms on the plant, appox. 1 inch high.
BTY, which kind did you get seeds from? Mine are a mix of many different kinds.

Thanks so much Stush Thumbs up Your seedlings look great. I think I got about 30 seeds from an unknown stapelia and about 26 germinated. They were really fresh seeds, and I accidentally dropped the tray when I was moving it towards a window. Thankfully the seedlings were ok and only a little soil was displaced. I'll need to buy some Dixie cups but I'll wait to transplant them until they are an inch high like you said. That's a very clever idea to use paper cups inside regular to wick the water. I also have plenty of domed cake pans. Right now I found a matching tray to go on top of the seedling tray and the seedlings are under an artificial light most of the day. Thanks so much Stush for the information Smiling

You are welcome. Now waiting for the flowers. It may take 3 years. Hopefully some might bloom in 2 years. I'll show pictures and be giving away the doubles.

Thanks Greg! The person who sent me them posted a picture and the blooms looked more like orbea variegata, but I'm not %100 certain. Hopefully I'll know for sure once they bloom? Thumbs up

Yey! I am not alone in seed planting conundrum. I try but my patience wears thin fast..and the plant mutually exhibits it too..so I just stick with cuttings or smaller plants right away.

Thanks Tarev and Greg. Over the Summer I kind of forgot about them but once I brought them indoors, I was proud that the little seedlings are growing up. Big Grin
