Oh, I so envy you, Jonna. Other than a handful of daffodils, nothing is in bloom outside, at least here in NE Mississippi. Perhaps we will stay above freezing after next week's cold front moves through. We are nice and sunny today, in the upper 60's, so I will take it.

Thanks all. Hetty, I have 2 plumeria buds as well, they are coming out of bare limbs which is kind of fun. There are claws on the ends of the limbs and a few small leaves but the bud stem is the biggest thing on there.

HaHa! I've got those claw ends on my two potted Plumerias, but the two in ground ones haven't even lost their leaves.

Ooooh those are fan-flower-tastic!!! I had a physical craving sensation looking at the purple banana thing! How cool is that?

Here are some little cuties I spotted in a nearby park yesterday. Since the park is south of my house by a few miles, that's about as tropical as I can get!

The worlds' smallest Oxalis? IDK?

I keep asking the name of this tiny one every spring, that can look a lot more blue-ish purple than this pic, but keep forgetting. Prevalent in the grass around here at this time, soooo cute!

Wow, Jonna those heliconias are gorgeous. Mine are at least 2 months away from blooming.

We keep having cool fronts brush by us, which slows down the blooming plants. Another one coming by tonight and tomorrow, then Thursday our high will not reach 70deg. and the low will be in the 40's.

My big passiflora quadrangularis is blooming 'way up high in the clump of bamboo. I know this because the spend flowers then fall down and lay forlornly on the walkway below. I don't even get to see the lovely, fragrant flowers, but here's a picture from last year of what they look like.

Oh that's a beauty! Do the butterfly worms eat it to death later? That's my annoyance with passiflora, I hate it when they eat all the leaves and buds and it looks horrible. I only have the one that makes fruit, the fruit gets almost yellow when ripe. I do like the fruit a lot so I haven't ripped it out but I chase the damn butterflies away when I can with the hose. It's pointless but it makes me feel better. Mine is in a pot on my roof and has never gotten very large, my friend has one that has almost eaten her pool house. She actually fell off the roof a couple years ago trying to hack it back, now she just lets it go or hires someone to go up there. However, she gets lots of fruit but again, it is so high up there that mostly the possums and birds get the fruit.

The butterflies seem to leave this one alone, Jonna. It's supposed to make large yellow fruit, but in 3 years growing one I have yet to see a fruit. I'm guessing the right pollinator isn't around here.

I have at least 3 other different kinds around the yard, and they do eat the Lady Margaret pretty badly but not the red one P. coccinea. My fruit bearing one is Purple Possum, which has the dark red fruits and again, not much interest from the butterflies on that one either. It grows rampantly along the back fence, bears a ton of fruit for about 3 years then dies off and I have to replace it. Trunk rot!

I did find some Clero. Shooting Stars in bloom today, and my "cartoon" begonia that just gets more flamboyant as it matures.

I grow Passiflora just so the gulf fritillary caterpillars can eat it. It doesn't make flowers as pretty as Elaine's though, a different kind with plain bluish-purple flowers. Had a bumper crop of cats this past fall.

Oh god, that grosses me out. I can't stand caterpillars and the damage they do. For that reason, I'm not a big fan of butterflies either. a few days of pretty and 6 weeks of ravenous mouth.
