Thoughts and Prayers going out to all in the area of the massive mudslides in the state of Washington; such a tragic situation and I send prayers to those who've lost homes and loved ones. Group hug

I'll join Lin in the good karma department. I'm fortunately nowhere near the danger area, although it certainly is familiar territory for me. Once that river finds a way to release, it will likely be a doozy, and nothing at all like our normal wet season flooding. Hoping no more lives will be lost and they are able to locate the still-missing.

It's really sad. We go through tropical storms and hurricanes here in Florida and some of them can be scary but at least we have a good amount of lead time and can choose to leave the area before it hits or batten down the hatches and try to weather the storm. I can't imagine mudslides, floods or earthquakes ...

The slide was a terrible tragedy, I feel so sorry for everyone concerned, especially the families, but also for the people that have to find the bodies of those still missing. Sad

And I am likewise hoping that many of the 'unaccounted for' have simply not realized they are on the list and will get in touch with someone soon. At least the river is making its own way through the debris and there is less likelihood of more flooding. Although the forecasted rain will not be helpful. And, I agree Margaret, my heart also goes out to the rescuers, it must be a gruesome task to shift through all that muck.

I'm afraid that I haven't even watched the news in a long time, so this is sad news to me. How terribly tragic and how fragile we really are. Many lives irrevocably changed in the blink of an eye....my version of prayers sent up....

My husband and I went to a benefit auction last weekend for the Oso victims, and it is always so heart warming to see so much local support. A rather non-descript chrome fire extinguisher went for $11,000 - two people bidding against each other, obviously with the intent to simply give a bunch of money to a good cause. It certainly got the crowd in a frenzy! Local bands provided entertainment and the event was held at a horse arena just outside Oso.
