I just wish all of you could have been at Kevin's open house. The daffodils were in bloom, and let me tell you, he has some amazing new daffodil hybrids. I couldn't believe the lovely scent coming from some of them. It filled the air.
This is just one small row of them. And there is my Clifton D, enjoying the beautiful fragrance of the daffodils.


People were coming and going all afternoon. Bet Kevin was worn to a frazzle after it was all over. A small group sitting and dinning on Kevin's amazing clam chowder. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Sure wish I had some right now. The house was filled with people, and others walking through the grounds looking at the perennial beds.


Look, there is our Patty, Cynda and Dave enjoying the good food. Wow, he had all kinds of stuff for us to eat and drink.


I lost track of how many people came, it was quite a large crowd. @JungleShadows Kevin might be able to tell us how many came?

This colony of Denise's Cobweb was full of crested offsets. Fascinating and colorful. This is the parent to Fuzzy Wuzzy. Now we can see where all those crested Fuzzy Wuzzy come from.



This is one that surprised Kevin on how well it did in our very wet winters. I think he said it originates from Spain. He can tell us more about this lovely specie sempervivum.

B4-12 I loved this one. It is small and very, very dark. Sorry my camera bleached it out. I can't wait until this one comes on the market.

Grey Lady seedlings. Just look at the color array.


Remember that bed with all the tiny seedling specks? Well look at it now.


Dave and I found this yellow centered one very interesting. And look at the pink one on the left.




Okay if you want to really see the intense colors and see just how dark some of these are, you will have to come to the May 3rd Clinic. My camera skills just do the colors justice.

That is only the tip of the Sempervivum iceburg. I couldn't stay very long, I needed to take Cliff to Portland. I just wish you two could have been there.

I wish I could have been in two places yesterday. In the end I chose the walk mainly because we lost one of our fellow walkers just two weeks ago and it was a beautiful day to walk and talk. Obviously a beautiful day for viewing semps too!

It was a super day at Kevin's! My "favorite" was the chowder! Kevin is quite the Chef!!! I decline to name my favorite semp after learning that my favorites seemed to be doomed as compost material . Honestly, there were so many it was a bit overwhelming but I did really like Denise's Cobweb,(my pic on the database, where I posted several others). Can't wait till the class!

Oh, be still my heart. Vivaldi is a beauty and I love Midas for it's unique shape and color. But I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite too. Beautiful beds. I can't imagine the amount of time it took to get everything ready for the open house. Thanks Lynn for the pictures!

The seedling photos I posted are just a few of thousands. I thought I took a couple of photos of the nursery pots full of new seedlings. I guess I got distracted.

Just wish all of you could have been there. What a gathering that would be.

Lynn, thank you for documenting the day! It was SUCH FUN to have all the people here. 43 in all. The last left at 730 PM so it was a long but fun day for me. Can't beluieve how many gallons of chowder were consumed.

One of the interesting things about these gatherings is that everyone has different opinions as to the seedlings that they liked best. However, Lynn , Cynda and I all spotted the same ones so we must have the same eyes. One thing that is obvious is that we do need more quality blues, greens and olive colored ones to offset the reds and purples. Certainly glad I have crosses involving 'Plastic', 'Silver Song', 'Minaret', 'Blue Boy', 'Pacific Blue Ice' and 'Frost and Flame'.

Started rowing out seedlings late yesterday as we are due for 6 days of rain. Everything should explode that's in the ground and the seedlings left in the pots should be solid mats!

Lynn, great pictures! So hard to pick a favorite but Aimon Correvon is really pretty. Love those gray/pink semps. What a beautiful day you had for semp gazing.
43 people is a lot to feed, glad you all had fun. I'm so green with envy right now, sure wish I could have come.

What do you fertilize the semps with? I may try that on a few.

Lynn I couldn't find "Midas" in the semp database...is it a new one? Is it even a semp? Its so odd looking!

The green one that Lynn showed is S. atlanticum from Oukaimeden (from Morocco not Spain) but the S. cantabricums (all 6 forms I grow) came through the winter fine too. they are known NOT to like winter wet and cold but they also looked great. They are from Spain.

Greg, you are right that 'Midas' does not look like your typical semp. When it arrived from Europe I was not impressed as it was just a small rosette but now that it has grown it looks very unique. Here's a green one that everyone should grow.

Have one seedling from S. ciliosum from Ali Botusch X 'Denise's Cobweb' that looks very interesting. It has the shape of the ciliosum but a red coloring and cobweb from the cobweb side. Too bad there was only ONE survivor from that cross. I would have liked to have seen 30 or so.

'Vivaldi' gets very big. One of the blooming size rosettes last year got to 8" before it bloomed. and yes I made crosses on it! Patty will be disapointed I crossed it to very dark ones but I'm still imagining those 8" black rosettes in my head!
