I made my 2nd attempt for the pineapple last Oct 2013..this time rooting it directly to soil, overwintered indoors, near our south facing window. Survived very well being dry while we were on vacation for 3 weeks, and still doing well.

Just a photo update:

I just placed it outdoors right now, to get some rain..hopefully it likes it! Big Grin

Nice one, tarev! Don't forget they usually live in humid areas, so a little misting when you pass by won't hurt esp. once it goes outside. They're bromeliads, right?

My pineapples bloom (fruit) in partial shade under my oak trees, so it doesn't need full sun, either.

How 'old' do these guys need to be before they bloom? I have one that's going on 2 years now .. keeping my fingers crossed!

I thought they say 2 to 3 years and you can induce it by putting an apple beside it, to trigger it.

Mine take about 2 years to fruit from starting with a top. I'd expect you'll see a flower this year, Anne!

That would be awesome .. mine was not a top though .. it was new growth from the mother plant.

Yaaaaa! Mine looks the same! Right down to the cut off bottom leaves so I could fit it in the greenhouse without acquiring puncture wounds every time I walked in!

Looking good! I still have the pineapple plant from 2 years ago. It had one pineapple and before I got around to tossing the plant it started growing again. So now it is a really large plant and I'm guessing another fruit is soon to come.

Oh, would love to see how it forms again on your plant Jonna!

Hey Anne, maybe it wants to be totally out of your greenhouse?

Here's a pic of my piña growing again, the first fruit was around the middle of the stem as it comes out of the dirt. After I cut that fruit last year, the plant started growing from a side shoot and this is where it has gotten.
