I wish I had been able to get the pic the first day in unfurled, as it was much deeper red. It's faded a bit now and will eventually take on the marbled/painted look of the other leaves.

That's really neat! I'm thinking since it's called Painted Lady it's suppose to be red?

If not, better get out the Epsom Salts, Mj! It's really pretty.

I have P. Prince of Orange that sometimes has new leaves that color, but right now they are very dark red. They go from this in cool weather to bright orange as it warms up, and almost shocking pink in the summer. I think it looks a bit like a cartoon plant, with those garish colors.

The new leaves typically come out reddish, with some of the green marbling. This one came out all red. I'm wondering if it's the cool nights.
It's out of the greenhouse, but I tucked it in beside an Oak with some other plants so I could toss a cover over it on these ( darn !!) cool mid 40º were still getting).
Night time temps have been all over the place !

Nighttime and daytime temps have been all over the place here .. three days ago there was frost on the ground.

Here you can see how that Red leaf has changed.
Also a friend suggested that this is not Painted Lady but Orange Marmalade. I haven't really had time to check it out but in the mean time if anyone has a thoughts I'd appreciate it.
