I just ordered a adenium obesum black fire from ebay. I got one when I saw jv44's black fire and I think they are very beautiful.

I just bought four more myself, egads and gadzooks! Two 'black' and two yellows. Takes a month or two before they look like anything but sticks...

Adam, when you get it, let it soak in warm-not-hot water, roots only, for a half hour to an hour. Then pot in damp mix, and don't water for about... two weeks? The little feeder roots have to get growing. It won't have any leaves, either, they need to be growing to use up water in the pot. These plants are about 97% water, so yours will not suffer being not wet. Over watering is the main reason they die from rot. So once the leaves start growing, then water sparingly. Once the plant is root bound, it can handle more water. Oh, don't put it in a really big pot-- there should be about two inches, or less, around the caudex/bottom. Got that?

Melissa, do you ever wonder if they give different names to the same adenium? Like, I wonder if Dark Fire is the very same as Black Asia? Others I've seed are many of the whites that look the same to me but have different names.........Just wondering! It's a shame about Wilfred, I wish I was in a position to help him, he has so much to offer, and forever got me interrested in Adenium. I miss his wisdom and common sense.

Will the graft scar be less visable with time?

I have to say that is a very ugly graft...

Oh well the price was cheap 13.99.

That's a good deal. I don't think it will get less visible but in my experience once you have blooms nobody looks at the graft anymore

Wow, in great shape! The graft can be carved once the plant is established, to be less lumpy.

Jim, names are a real buggerboo. One fellow, Dr. Mark Dimmit, tried to create an international registry, but had only Americans, and it went nowhere. The breeding is such a mix, that yes, people in different countries are coming up with similar flowers and giving them different names. A good single red with a dark edge has many names by now. Mr. Ko re-invented a "Triple Santa" and named it "Miracle" There are some tried and true names, but the field is growing by leaps and bounds, with breeders in Thailand and India growing tens of thousands of plants, no exaggeration. I would, if I could get help that'd work for two dollars a day! ha. The two that I posted in another thread, I just saw named "Dazzling Light" on somebody's facebook page.

I have a few cleft grafts and they definitely are not my choice for appearance sake as opposed to the flat grafts. Most of mine are older and the graft has closed off.
Yours by the way it is off centered, almost looks that a double grafted scion could have been tried and one did not take?
Either way as Melissa stated, you can trim at a later date if wanted.
The flower will be the main focus and once in leaf will make a big difference.

I had a graft that looked like that, I wrapped some tape around it for several months, looked much better then I trimmed off some ugly spots.

What kind of tape did you use?

I am by no means an expert, but I would not wrap the grafted area with tape and create a place for moisture to build or sit. This I believe would create an issue with rot and on an already healed graft union.

I purchased the plant with the graft and it looked like it was going to fall apart, I used tape but it was not the sticky kind, I left it on about a month, did not bother the plant at all, now you have to look hard to see the graft.
