@lovemyhouse gave us these irises several years ago and they've really performed well for us. Does anyone know what the actual name might be?

Kind of hard to see with the falls rolled. Do you have apicture when the flower is "relaxed" a little? How tall does it get ?...Arlyn

'Truly Yours' is one of the more likely possibilities. Since it won the Dykes Medal in 1953, it's been preserved and passed around quite a bit.

It really doesn't look like a tall bearded. Is it a dwarf iris?

I don't think your noid is "yellow enough" to be Truly Yours. Noid appears to me to be more "cream" in color, and, somewhat older in" form"( falls appear a little too long and floppy). My guess would be an iris from the 30's. Parthenon, or,maybe Selene would be close. Not sure if those are in the Data Base. I wouldn't buy any test plants just yet! You're gonna' need lots more info for this one, as there were lots of creams, or "soft yellows ,off-whites",( or however you want to describe that color) from that era. That's just my opinion....Arlyn

It may be that we'll never get a 100% positive ID on this one, then. It's a shame because they have multiplied so much that I want to offer them to the local master gardeners for their sale, but in order to do that it'd be particularly nice to have a name.

I'll see about some more photos today.

Measure the height of each stalk and average it out. What is that number? Does it have PBF? Does it smeel and if so, what does it smell like? Strong, faint, sweet, musky, ect. It helps narrow the field.

Those last pictures are really just the kind you need to try to get an I.D., the only thing missing, maybe ,is one that shows the base of the plant (that would show PBF). In this case ,we know it has it, 'cause Debra grows the same iris (and was the "donor"!). There is a discussion going on now on the HIPS board concerning an iris (maybe even two), that are VERY similar to this one, and there have been several "maybes" mentioned. Debra also "gifted" me with a start of this one last year (Thanks Deb !) and with any luck at all, I should have bloom this year, so I will continue to try for an I. D. I think it's going to be a toughie to get, because there are lots of " light yellow-cream" iris from that era. If anybody on the hips board has any insight ,I'll post here, but, so far, we're still grabbing at straws ,there, too.....Arlyn

Be interested to hear how that discussion progresses. My house was built in 1940 and I am indulging in the fancy that this yellow has been here continuously since then.

This looks very similar to one I've been trying to ID. Mine came from a nurseryman in San Jose who has had it since the 70's. He says it is a rebloomer, although I've had it less than a year w/ no rebloom.
Mine has light (but distinct) PBF, w/ blooming ht at 39". Flowers are large in comparison to my other historics. It you flatten out the falls and standards, they each measure 4", although the flower itself is about 6" tall. It has a nice fragrance and seems very popular with polinators. It has been very vigorous in growth in the 6 months that it's been in the ground. Flowers are more yellow when they open and fade towards creamy.
