I have seeds from last year that I never planted. How long do they remain viable? Wondering when I should plant them as well. I was just going to sow them into a hanging basket.

I have sown packets of seeds that were 3 or 4 years old and they germinated and grew fine.

For baskets, you could sow now as long as your baskets are protected from frost. I see you're in PA so you will probably have a lot more frost coming. I always surface sow and don't cover. Because the seeds are so tiny, I direct sow wherever I want them, whether in the ground or in baskets.

Can't wait to see your photo's when they are blooming Thumbs up

Vic

seems to me I surfaced sowed in the past - cannot remember when I did it though. I might have sown the seeds and then put the whole basket into a clear garbage bag for a wintersowing effect. I may still do that.

Thanks

Hoping to get to mine this week. It has been rather hectic here.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a source for the "Duet" series of portulaca. I know Sakata shows them on their site but all of the retailers are in Canada. I'm looking for the seeds as they are so easy to grow from seed here in southern CA.. Thank You!

I am sadly an Instant gratification gardener. The one time I did plant seeds, I didn't do well. Whistling

I buy from the nurseries.

I tried growing from seeds. I was not successful either. It seemed like once the seedlings came up they dried up. I guess I'll just go to a nursery too. By the way I love your blog and this whole web site.

I have had them self-sow, but I don't get cold winters that might freeze the seeds.
