Out of all the eggplant seeds I sowed with new store bought seed starter, only two sprouted. So, I have been taking care of them carefully for the last three months. Yesterday, I noticed they look very much like a weed that grows everywhere here.

My eggplant:

So I looked up what eggplant seedlings were supposed to look like. Well, they were weeds! I went an bought some real eggplants from the store yesterday.
My eggplants:

The blue tint to your photos is caused by your camera's white balance setting. Change it to the default "Auto" white balance and your photos will look more realistic.

The plants depicted in the first photo are Lamb's Quarters. It's actually a nice weed that is edible and useful for many things.

That's exactly what I thought about the first photo, Dave.

I was about to post, "Those aren't weeds. Those are one of our host and webmaster's favorite edible plants!"

Maybe you've kept them and will be growing them for your salads, soups, or for your chickens, T-kitty.

Shoe (looking forward to eggplant on the grill this summer)

We love eating lamb's quarters! And we often sell them in our local master gardener plant sale, believe it or not! Hilarious! Hey, if you don't have 'em, you'll need to get them from somewhere!

Well, it's hard to believe people would buy Lamb's Quarter. It's so invasive here I could feed the whole county. The horses won't eat it unless there is nothing else to eat. If left unchecked it will take over the pasture. Wondering if you eat it like a salad green or cook it or both?

We've never cooked it, just eat the tips raw.

Chickens really love lamb's quarters and perform well on a diet of the plant. It also makes great mulch around your orchard trees.

Wow! People would BUY Lambs Quarters?!? When I lived in the North, it was the biggest pest in my garden. This past season, it has shown up on my farm here. I cringed when I saw it- and sure enough, I see a bajillion seedlings all over the place this spring. I have tried to eat it (cooked), but, well, uhmmm...yuck. Taste like a weed to me, lol. I admit that I never tried it raw, perhaps I will change my mind. It appears as though I will have plenty of opportunity this year.
Thanks for the tip Dave.

I've never tried it cooked. But cooked greens have never been my thing. I always like the raw veggies. Smiling

I was wondering if anyone's tried melon greens? I would think they would have to be cooked.
