So pretty! Neighbor has two large Sweetgum trees and the forest behind us has dozens. I love them except for one time of year, but then, many other trees fit into that category as well!

I saw a Christmas tree once decorated with spray-painted silver and gold Sweetgum balls. It was a natural-decorations tree with pine sprays, pine cones and other Nature's beauties and really was lovely.

I have always wanted to take the ones with stem still on and dip them several times in red wax to make them look like cherries to use as fire starters. But so many crafts and so little time Whistling Lovey dubby

I actually love Sweetgum trees. Some times in the middle of winter I can smell them- they make a sweet, haunting smell. When I first moved down here, I would smell that scent but never could figure out where it came from. A friend of mine, a super smart horticulturist, told me the smell emanated from Sweetgum trees. It comes from the bark.
I did not know they attracted Luna Moths! Once in a great while I see one, it is always a treat. I used to see those giant moths, Cassiopeia is the name I was told. Have not seen one in a bunch of years though.
Cheryl, that is the coolest idea to paint the balls for Christmas! That would make a good gift! I would like to get something like that given to me.

Is this the one you use to see? I have had them for quite a few years. They are beautiful also.
