I recently got a system notice that one of my photos has been moved from one spot to the next. I don't agree with the decision. I think I should have been involved in the decision. I'm all in favor of keeping our database as accurate as possible, and I'd have been willing to do whatever research is needed to correctly identify my photo. Is there some way we could have a 3-way discussion when someone questions an ID? Sorry for the curtness, but, yes, I'm a bit miffed.

We try to make it a three way conversation Deb, but I know I've forgotten on occasion. Was it an ID or a name change resulting in a DB entry being deleted. You can always contact us to discuss it as well or as you have, start a thread here in the forum.

I've actually just put in a request to delete the photo from the database. Which was odd, I would have thought I could do that myself. Which then brings up a whole 'nother question - why can't I? But to clarify, one person questioned a Dianthus ID and suggested it be put into the generic Centaurea spot. I'm fairly certain this plant is NOT any sort of Centaurea but don't want to belabor the point so would just like it to be gone.

Thanks, Evan, for deleting the questionable photo. Sooo... why can't I delete my own photo?

I never realized a photo could not be deleted by the person who posted it. What are the pros or cons of allowing users to delete their own submissions?

All proposals to add, delete or move photos in the database are subject to the approval of either moderators or, as in this case, plant admins. We occasionally get requests to delete a photo, usually because someone wants to replace it with a better one. If you ask for a photo of yours to be deleted it will be.

Thank you for the clarification, Evan. Wouldn't it be simpler and more efficient to just allow contributors to delete their own photos? Probably a question for @dave as I have no idea what would be involved code-wise. As always, I will defer to those with more knowledge than me.

Evan has the right answer: all proposals go through the exact same process and that can't be changed without special coding. The policy is that every image that is proposed to be deleted by the actual submitter will be approved no matter what.
